Activities
There are plenty of activities to participate in during Hallow’s End, offering a variety of ways to earn Tricky Treats and other rewards!
Wickerman
Throughout the holiday, you’ll find a large burning effigy just outside of Undercity and Stormwind. This is the Wickerman, whose burning represents a cleansing of the self and commemorates the Forsaken’s freedom from the Lich King’s grasp.
You can use the Bonfire in front of the Wickerman to throw a torch at it and gain an experience buff. Horde must complete a second step by clicking on the Wickerman Ashes on the ground.
- Unburdened/ Grim Visage: 10% increased reputation and experience gains for 2 hours
There is another buff that goes out every four hours. An announcement will be made to the nearby area 10 minutes in advance, and a small RP event will play out, after which everyone in the vicinity will receive the buff. The times for this buff are 12:15, 4:15, and 8:15 realm time, both AM and PM.
- Greymane’s Resolve/ Decree of the Dark Lady: Mastery and Stamina increased for 1 hour. This buff persists through death but does not stack with elixirs or flasks.
There are also two daily quests associated with the Wickermen, one for lighting your own faction’s Wickerman and the other for extinguishing the effigy of the opposite faction.
Alliance Quests
A Time to Gain can be picked up from Celestine of the Harvest. This quest tasks you with clicking on the Bonfire in front of the Wickerman outside Stormwind City. This quick task will earn you a Tricky Treat as a reward.
A Time to Lose is obtained from Keira, who wants you to use the Dousing Agent she gives you to put out the Horde’s Wickerman outside Undercity. This task will bring you to hostile territory, as you must enter the Ruins of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades to reach the Wickerman (62.4, 68.2). You’ll earn 3 Tricky Treats for your trouble.
Horde Quests
Both Horde quests can be picked up from Darkcaller Yanka.
A Time to Build Up directs you to click on the Bonfire in front of the Wickerman outside Undercity, and then click on the Wickerman Ashes nearby. This easy quest awards a single Tricky Treat.
A Time to Break Down sends you to use a Dousing Agent on the Alliance’s Wickerman outside of Stormwind. You’ll need to venture into hostile territory by reaching the Wickerman at the gates of the city in Elwynn Forest (33.3, 48.5). You’ll receive 3 Tricky Treats for your trouble.
Orphan Quests
There are orphans at both of the Hallow’s End faction hubs who offer a small trick-or-treating questline. Completing this quest requires running around to each of your faction’s capital cities. Handing it in awards 10 Tricky Treats.
Alliance Quest

Stink Bombs
It wouldn’t be Hallow’s End without some harmless pranks. Two of the daily quests involve dropping stink bombs on the enemy faction’s city, which leaves any players or NPCs with the (mostly) harmless Stink Bombed debuff.
Alliance Quests
These quests can be acquired from Gretchen Fenlow (Elwynn Forest 32.3, 50.9).
Stink Bombs Away! points you to Gertrude Fenlow, who is right beside the quest giver. She’ll set you on a broom which will whisk you away to Undercity, where you must use the Toss Stink Bomb ability to stink up the enemy’s city. When you’ve dropped at least 25 bombs (feel free to drop more!), use the Return Home ability to turn in the quest and receive your 2 Tricky Treats.
Clean Up in Stormwind sends you to clean up stink bombs that have been dropped in Stormwind City by Horde players. Take your Arcane Cleanser and throw it at any orange clouds on the ground throughout the city. Return to the quest giver for your 3 Tricky Treats.
Horde Quests
These quests are started by Candace Fenlow (Tirisfal Glades 62.4, 66.7).
Stink Bombs Away! points you to Crina Fenlow nearby. She’ll set you on a broom which will whisk you away to Stormwind City, where you must use the Toss Stink Bomb ability to stink up the enemy’s city. When you’ve dropped at least 25 bombs (feel free to drop more!), use the Return Home ability to turn in the quest and receive your 2 Tricky Treats.
Clean Up in Undercity directs you to clean up stink bombs that have been dropped throughout Undercity by Alliance players. Take your Arcane Cleanser and throw it at any orange clouds on the ground throughout the city. Return to the quest giver for your 3 Tricky Treats.
Creepy Crate Quests
The Creepy Crate pet is new to Cataclysm, and getting your hands on it requires completing a series of quests. These quests are slightly different based on your faction.
This quest chain is currently bugged in Cataclysm Classic. We will expand this section when it has been fixed. We have covered the parts that are currently accessible in the game as of publication.
Alliance Quests
To get started, speak with Gretchen Fenlow (Elwynn Forest 32.3, 50.9) to pick up the quest A Friend in Need. This quest directs you to Anson Hastings inside the Stormwind Inn.
He offers the follow-up quest Missing Heirlooms, which points you to a ship that is docked at Stormwind Harbor. Head to one of the docks in the middle where you can see a typical Alliance ship is docked and enter the cabin to find the Hired Courier on the ground (24.0, 44.8). Watch your step getting on the boat – there is a gap between the dock and the deck of the ship.
This quest is currently bugged in Cataclysm Classic and cannot be progressed any further.
Horde Quests
To get started, speak with Candace Fenlow (Tirisfal Glades 62.4, 66.7) to pick up the quest A Friend in Need. This quest directs you to Edgar Goodwin inside the Broken Tusk inn in Orgrimmar.
He offers the follow-up quest Missing Heirlooms, which points you to a ship that is docked outside of Orgrimmar. Head southeast of the city and board the lone ship you find there. Enter the cabin to find the Hired Courier on the ground (57.3, 9.0).
This quest is currently bugged in Cataclysm Classic and cannot be progressed any further.
Apple Bobbing
Near any innkeeper you’ll find open Apple Bob barrels that you can interact with to pick up 5 Bobbing Apples. These apples stack up to 20 and you can pick up as many as you like! Although the tooltip doesn’t say so, they offer a Well Fed buff if you eat for at least 10 seconds, granting Stamina and Spirit equal to 25% of your level (21 at level 85). The buff lasts for 15 minutes.
Candy Buckets
Inns all across Azeroth and Outland have stocked up on candy for the occasion, and you don’t even need to ring the doorbell first! Just look for a pumpkin pail on the ground that offers the quest Candy Bucket and interact with it to grab yourself a Handful of Treats. These can contain any of the following items:
- Tricky Treat
- Chewy Fel Taffy
- G.N.E.R.D.S.
- Pyroblast Cinnamon Ball
- Soothing Spearmint Candy
- Penny Pouch
- Tooth Pick
- Any candy (Candy Bar, Candy Corn, Lollipop)
- Any mask
- Any wand

The Headless Horseman (Holiday Boss)
The holiday boss for the Hallow’s End event is the Headless Horseman. You can queue for this special boss in the Group Finder. You must be level 85 to face him, as he awards endgame (ilvl 365) loot. You will not be able to summon the boss if you enter the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard manually; you must use the Group Finder.
The first time you queue for this boss each day, you’ll receive a Loot-Filled Pumpkin, which has a chance to contain several items from the boss’s loot table, including the mount. You can continue to queue for the boss as many times as you like.
The fight has three phases. You’ll start by attacking the Horseman. When his health reaches 1%, he’ll throw out his Head, which you must defeat in order to fight the Horseman again. You’ll need to do this twice. After the first time, he’ll cast Conflagrate on random players other than the tank. Then after the second time, he’ll spawn four Pumpkin Fiends. Defeat the head a third time and then you’ll be able to kill the Horseman and get your loot!

Putting Out Village Fires
The Headless Horseman periodically appears in starting zones, setting houses on fire and cackling from his mount high above. You can help these villages out by putting out the fires.
- Alliance Locations:
- Azure Watch in Azuremyst Isle
- Goldshire in Elwynn Forest
- Kharanos in Dun Morogh
- Horde Locations:
- Brill in Tirisfal Glades
- Falconwing Square in Eversong Woods
- Razor Hill in Durotar
To get started, visit the Costumed Orphan Matron or Masked Orphan Matron in the village and pick up the quest Fire Brigade Practice/ Fire Training, then locate the training area nearby. You’ll need to click on the Water Barrel to pick up a Water Bucket, then open your inventory and throw the bucket at one of the flaming scarecrows to douse the fire. The quest offers the following rewards:
- Tricky Treat
- 75 reputation with the nearest capital city
The same NPCs offer the daily quest, which works the same way, except you must aim your water bucket at the town buildings that are on fire. Keep in mind that you can also throw the bucket to another player, if you want to coordinate. There are two versions of the daily quest: “Let the Fires Come!”/ “Let the Fires Come!” appears when the Horseman is not currently active, and Stop the Fires!/ Stop the Fires! appears when the village is already ablaze. You will only be able to pick up one or the other, and the former rewards a Tricky Treat while the latter gives 3 Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treats.
Put the fires out, and defeat the Horseman when he lands. A jack-o-lantern will appear on the ground. Interact with it to get a Crudely Wrapped Gift, which has a chance to contain any of the following:
- Folded Letter
- Hallowed Helm
- Handful of Treats
- Rickety Magic Broom
- Sinister Squashling
- Weighted Jack-o-Lantern
- Penny Pouch
- Tooth Pick
- Candy (Candy Bar, Candy Corn, Lollipop)
- Any mask
- Any wand
You’ll also be able to hand in the daily quest, which gives the following:
- Tricky Treat (“Let the Fires Come!” only)
- Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat (Stop the Fires! only)
- Weighted Jack-o-Lantern
