Besides your gear and talents, there are 3 additional ways you can increase your character’s power: gems, enchants, and consumables, which make your character significantly more powerful when combined correctly. Many guilds and raid groups may not invite you at all if you don’t have the correct gems, enchants, and consumables — but worry not, this guide will help you avoid that problem!
Gems
Note that non-Jewelcrafting epic gems are added to the game in Phase 4.

Yellow Socket
- Use red gems if the socket bonus is less than +20 Intellect or +30 of another stat. Otherwise use:
- Epic: Reckless Lava Coral if you need Haste/Artful Lava Coral otherwise
- Rare: Reckless Ember Topaz if you need Haste/Artful Ember Topaz otherwise
Blue Socket
- Use red gems if the socket bonus is less than +20 Intellect or +30 of another stat. Otherwise use:
- Epic: Veiled Shadow Spinel
- Rare: Veiled Demonseye

- Head:
- Arcanum of Hyjal (Guardians of Hyjal – Revered)
- Shoulders:
- Felfire Inscription if you have Inscription
- Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone otherwise (Therazane – Exalted)
- Cloak:
- Lightweave Embroidery if you have Tailoring
- Enchant Cloak – Greater Intellect otherwise
- Chest:
- Bracers:
- Draconic Embossment – Intellect if you have Leatherworking
- Enchant Bracer – Precision if you’re desperate for Hit Rating
- Enchant Bracer – Mighty Intellect otherwise
- Plus Socket Bracer if you have Blacksmithing

- Enchant Gloves – Haste if you need Haste

These can be picked by Herbalists in Outland (check out our farming guide). They do not share a cooldown with any other important consumables and provide a solid damage buff.
