Besides your gear and talents, there are 3 additional ways you can increase your character’s power: gems, enchants, and consumables, which make your character significantly more powerful when combined correctly. Many guilds and raid groups may not invite you at all if you don’t have the correct gems, enchants, and consumables — but worry not, this guide will help you avoid that problem!
Gems
Note that non-Jewelcrafting epic gems are added to the game in Phase 4.
Meta Socket
Red Socket
- Jewelcrafting: Brilliant Chimera’s Eye
- Epic: Brilliant Queen’s Garnet
- Rare: Brilliant Inferno Ruby
Yellow Socket
- Use red gems if the socket bonus is less than +10 Intellect. Otherwise use:
- Epic: Potent Lava Coral if you are below the soft Crit cap/Reckless Lava Coral otherwise
- Rare: Potent Ember Topaz if you are below the soft Crit cap/Reckless Ember Topaz otherwise
Blue Socket
- Use red gems if the socket bonus is less than +10 Intellect. Otherwise use:
- Epic: Veiled Shadow Spinel
- Rare: Veiled Demonseye
Enchants
Armor
- Head:
- Arcanum of Hyjal (Guardians of Hyjal – Revered)
- Shoulders:
- Felfire Inscription if you have Inscription
- Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone otherwise (Therazane – Exalted)
- Cloak:
- Lightweave Embroidery if you have Tailoring
- Enchant Cloak – Greater Intellect otherwise
- Chest:
- Bracers:
- Draconic Embossment – Intellect if you have Leatherworking
- Enchant Bracer – Precision if you’re desperate for Hit Rating
- Enchant Bracer – Mighty Intellect otherwise
- Plus Socket Bracer if you have Blacksmithing
- Gloves:
- Synapse Springs if you have Engineering
- Enchant Gloves – Haste otherwise
- Plus Socket Gloves if you have Blacksmithing

- Ebonsteel Belt Buckle
- Plus Grounded Plasma Shield if you have Engineering

- Master’s Spellthread if you have Tailoring
- Powerful Enchanted Spellthread otherwise

- Enchant Boots – Lavawalker if you want the movement speed increase
- Enchant Boots – Haste otherwise
- Rings:

- Flame Cap
These can be picked by Herbalists in Outland (check out our farming guide). They do not share a cooldown with any other important consumables and provide a solid damage buff.
