With the arrival of Cataclysm, the talent system received a massive overhaul, changing from the 71 talent points system to a more compact 41 points system. As such, many of the old talents were either completely removed or changed, resulting in fewer possible build variations. One key aspect of the new system is that you must use at least 31 points in your main specialization to use the remaining 10 points in a secondary specialization.
Talent Builds
Protection Paladin Tanks have one standard Talent Build that works in most environments, whether we talk about Raids or Dungeons. Their Talent Tree has been massively revamped when compared to the WotLK version, with many talents now being considerably stronger. Possibly the most impactful change for the Protection Talent Tree is the disappearance of the Spiritual Attunement talent and the addition of the new Judgements of the Wise and Sanctuary talents. Those changes allow Protection Paladins to have a steady supply of mana regeneration!
The build features some flexibility, with talents such as Guarded by the Light and Eternal Glory being viable options for raid comps where your healers are not so strong and you need to increase your self-healing capabilities.
The standard prioritizes the Retribution Talent Tree after reaching its capstone, with the Rule of Law, Crusade, and Pursuit of Justice being important talents.
This variation of the standard build is almost identical to it, however, it prioritizes two points into Reckoning instead of two points in Hallowed Ground while also renouncing the Rule of Law in favor of the Melee Haste and Mana Regeneration granted by Judgements of the Pure.
