Besides your gear and talents, there are 3 additional ways you can increase your character’s power: gems, enchants, and consumables, which make your character significantly more powerful when combined correctly. Many guilds and raid groups may not invite you at all if you don’t have the correct gems, enchants, and consumables — but worry not, this guide will help you avoid that problem!
Gems
- Meta Socket:
- Ember Shadowspirit Diamond until you are comfortable with your mana pool
- Burning Shadowspirit Diamond otherwise
- Red Socket:
- Brilliant Chimera’s Eye if you have Jewelcrafting
- Brilliant Inferno Ruby otherwise
- Yellow Socket:
- Brilliant Inferno Ruby if the socket bonus is less than +20 Intellect
- Reckless Ember Topaz if you need Haste
- Artful Ember Topaz otherwise
- Blue Socket:
- Brilliant Inferno Ruby if the socket bonus is less than +20 Intellect
- Purified Demonseye otherwise

- Head:
- Arcanum of Hyjal (Guardians of Hyjal – Revered)
- Shoulders:
- Felfire Inscription if you have Inscription
- Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone otherwise (Therazane – Exalted)

- Enchant Cloak – Greater Intellect otherwise

- Draconic Embossment – Intellect if you have Leatherworking

- Synapse Springs if you have Engineering
