Savage Leather is the highest level of standard leather that can be obtained in the Cataclysm expansion. This Savage Leather farming guide was made to help you find the best places to gather this material so you can get to crafting! Like most leather, Savage Leather is primarily acquired by Skinning Beasts and Dragonkin of the appropriate level range (80-85).
- Savage Leather can be gathered by Skinning level 80-85 Beasts and Dragonkin.
- Savage Leather can also be crafted with Leatherworking by combining Savage Leather Scraps, which will sometimes be skinned from level 80-85 Beasts and Dragonkin instead of Savage Leather.
- Heavy Savage Leather can only be crafted Leatherworking and requires Savage Leather to make.
- While skinning in this level range you’ll have a chance of getting a Strange Bloated Stomach in addition to leather. This item can reward you with some valuable items, including Volatiles.
Best Zones to Farm Savage Leather
Zone | Level Range |
---|---|
Mount Hyjal | 80-82 |
Vashj’ir | 80-82 |
Deepholm | 82-83 |
Uldum | 83-84 |
Twilight Highlands | 84-85 |
Tol Barad | 84-85 |
Tol Barad Peninsula | 85 |
Tol Barad Peninsula
- This is the best place to farm Savage Leather, as long as there aren’t a lot of other people skinning here. With the daily quests in the area you may not even have to kill any mobs yourself – you can just follow other people around and clean up!
- You’ll be skinning Darkwood Lurkers and Darkwood Broodmothers, level 85 Beasts in The Darkwood at the center of the map. You may also come across some Baradin Foxes in this area which can also be skinned. All of these mobs have a 100% chance to drop Savage Leather when skinned.
Tol Barad
- This is an excellent area to farm Savage Leather, but you may encounter PvP here, especially while the battle is active.
- You’ll be skinning Baradin Crocolisks, level 85 Beasts, in the swampy western region of the map. They have a 100% chance to drop Savage Leather when skinned.
Twilight Highlands
- This is a good location to farm Savage Leather if Tol Barad is too crowded or you don’t want to deal with the PvP in the area.
- You’ll be skinning Highland Elks, Highland Worgs, Tawny Owls, and Untamed Gryphons, level 84 Beasts on the northeastern plateau. All of these mobs have a 100% chance to drop Savage Leather when skinned.
Deepholm
- This is a great location if you’re looking to farm some Blackened Dragonscale along with your Savage Leather.
- You’ll be skinning Stone Drakes, level 83 Elite Dragonkin in The Pale Roost. The nearby giants are throwing rocks and knocking them out of the sky, so they won’t be too tough to kill even though they are Elite. They have about a 30% chance to drop Blackened Dragonscale when skinned, otherwise they will drop Savage Leather.
Uldum
- This is a good place to farm Savage Leather if you also have Herbalism. You’ll be able to pick Whiptail here and even get some Volatile Life in the process.
- You’ll be killing Oasis Crocolisk, level 83-84 Beasts in the area around the Lost City of the Tol’vir. You may encounter other Crocolisks in the area, but these are the only ones with a 100% chance to drop Savage Leather when skinned; the others have a 20-25% chance to drop Savage Leather Scraps instead.
