Welcome to our Mists of Pandaria scenarios guide! Scenarios are a new type of content that was added to the game for the Mists of Pandaria expansion. They’re mini-dungeons that can be completed either solo or in a group of 3 players of any role. Below you’ll find key details on all of the scenarios in the expansion, including the standard 3-person scenarios as well as the unique solo scenarios.

All of the scenarios listed below have a 3 player limit, and all require Character Level 90. Note that most scenarios do not have a Heroic difficulty mode — only scenarios with a value listed in the Heroic Mode – Group Finder Required iLvl column have both Normal and Heroic modes.

Mists of Pandaria also adds 1-player scenarios, which are listed below. As with the regular scenarios, these all require character level 90. A few are done as part of the Isle of Thunder questline — you can only complete these once (the one exception is Troves of the Thunder King, which you can run repeatedly).

How to Start Scenarios
Lorewalker Cho (83.3, 29.7) is found in the Seat of Knowledge, which is above the entrance to Mogu’shan Palace in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Speaking to Lorewalker Cho while you are Level 90 will allow you to accept quests that give you access to various scenarios.
After accepting the relevant quest from Lorewalker Cho, you can enter a scenario by using the Dungeon Finder, or by using Lorewalker Cho’s Dream Brew, which is found at the table to the left of the stairs that lead to Cho.


Rewards
The normal 3-player scenarios all reward Valor Points and a cache of treasures, with Heroic Mode rewarding more points and better treasure. There are also different achievements available in each scenario.

Below, you’ll find all the key details for each scenario. They are organized by patch to make it easier to see what’s available at each stage of the expansion.
Patch 5.0 Scenarios
The expansion begins with 5 scenarios — note that Heroic difficulty wasn’t added until patch 5.3, so while some of the following scenarios have a Heroic mode listed, it may not be available when MoP Classic launches.
Arena of Annihilation

In this scenario, players face a series of gladiatorial battles overseen by Gurgthock and Wodin the Troll-Servant. The encounter begins with Scar-Shell, a dragon turtle that spins across the arena and becomes vulnerable afterward, followed by Jol’Grum, a yeti who knocks players back and grows enraged as he moves. Little Liuyang, a fire spirit, creates flame walls and summons spirits while reflecting damage, while Chagan Firehoof, a yaungol warrior, scorches the ground with burning trails alongside his yak, Batu. The final challenger is chosen at random and can be Maki Waterblade, who creates a water vortex and fixates players, Satay Byu, who slows players with stacking poisons, or Cloudbender Kobo, who summons tornados and bombards the arena with lightning while flying overhead.

In this scenario, players assist Brewmaster Blanche in crafting her legendary Boomer Brew during a violent thunderstorm. As saurok raiders descend on the mountain, players must protect Blanche while helping gather the volatile storm energy needed for the brew. After brewing is complete, players escort Blanche down Thunderpaw Road, fighting off waves of Viletongue saurok. The scenario culminates at Thunderpaw Refuge, where players face Borokhula the Destroyer, a powerful saurok leader threatening the monastery. Blanche’s explosive brew becomes key to turning the tide against the invaders.


Brewmoon Festival

Set in Binan Village, Kun-Lai Summit, players help Brewmaster Boof and the villagers prepare for their annual brew festival. What starts as a joyful event quickly turns dangerous as players gather ingredients for the Kun-Lai Kicker and fend off threats from saurok and virmen. After uncovering reports of nearby yaungol activity, players help fortify the village before facing waves of Bataari yaungol attackers. The scenario concludes with a battle against Warbringer Qobi, the leader of the invading yaungol, as players fight to save the festival and protect Binan Village from destruction.

Beneath the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, players are sent to cleanse Guo-Lai Halls, which have been overrun by Sha corruption. As the Shado-Pan’s initial expedition has gone missing, players venture inside to face ancient mogu defenses, corrupted spirits, and lingering Sha entities. The scenario begins with the defeat of Jin Ironfist, a corrupted Shado-Pan leader, followed by the cleansing of the tainted Pool of Life. Players then delve deeper into the crypts, battling forgotten kings, terracotta guardians, and quilen statues. The scenario culminates with a battle against the Abomination of Anger, a powerful Sha construct threatening to consume the crypt in rage.


Greenstone Village

In this scenario, players help defend the eponymous village from a rampaging earth spirit named Hui and his corrupted minions. As Hui curses the village for driving away local sprites, players must rescue endangered villagers, defend Brewmaster Tzu’s dojo, and recover stolen barrels of Greenstone Brew from the surrounding forest. After helping the masons and villagers regroup, players confront Vengeful Hui in a final showdown to lift the curse and save Greenstone Village from destruction.

This scenario has a Horde and Alliance version, each offering a unique perspective on the destruction of Theramore Isle. In the Horde version, players act as infiltrators sent to sabotage Theramore’s docks, burn ships, disable siege engines, and rescue a captured Sunreaver agent, all while setting the stage for the deployment of Garrosh’s mana bomb that obliterates the city. The Alliance version follows heroes arriving in the ruins after the bombing, where they fight to repel Horde scavengers, rescue survivors, and assist Jaina Proudmoore in securing the Focusing Iris before confronting Warlord Rok’nah. Both scenarios depict the brutal aftermath of the attack and highlight the escalating conflict between the factions.

Team up with Brewmaster Bo to raid the hozen pirate stronghold of Unga Ingoo. After escorting Bo to the village’s brewing cauldron, players must gather Jungle Punch from across the island while defending Bo from waves of hozen raiders. Once the brew is complete, Captain Ook arrives aboard his banana boat to challenge the players in a final showdown. Upon victory, the villagers celebrate, and players can sample the Unga Jungle-Brew, which transforms them into hozen pirates for a short time.

This patch features a few scenarios that are Horde/Alliance specific, plus one for both factions.

Set on the island of Zan’vess in the Dread Wastes, players fight to dismantle the mantid defenses and secure a cache of powerful weapons. The scenario begins with an aerial strike to disable the island’s sonic shield by destroying control towers and avoiding anti-air defenses. After breaching the barrier, players storm the beaches and fight through mantid and Kor’kron forces to reach the Heart of Zan’vess. The scenario culminates in a battle against Commander Tel’vrak, the mantid leader protecting the weapons stockpile hidden deep within the island.

- You Mean That Wasn’t a Void Zone?
Players escort Vol’jin through a saurok-infested cave along the Veiled Stair. Sent by Garrosh to uncover ancient mogu secrets tied to saurok creation, Vol’jin grows suspicious of the Warchief’s motives. As the group ventures deeper, they fend off saurok defenders, defeat Broodmaster Noshi, and discover the mogu’s dark experiments in flesh-shaping. In the final confrontation, Rak’gor Bloodrazor reveals Garrosh’s true intent and attempts to assassinate Vol’jin. Players foil the ambush, swear a blood oath with Vol’jin, and set in motion events that will shape the future of the Horde.

In this Horde-only scenario, players defend Domination Point from an aggressive Alliance assault launched from Lion’s Landing. Alongside Kromthar, General Nazgrim, and Warlord Bloodhilt, players push back waves of 7th Legion forces, including specialized A.C.E. units and gnomish saboteurs. After rallying the defense, players set up Rivett Clutchpop’s weapons and hold the keep against elite Alliance champions. Victory secures Domination Point as a key Horde stronghold in Krasarang Wilds.


Lion’s Landing

Lion’s Landing is an Alliance-only scenario where players defend the Alliance’s newly constructed beachhead against a Horde assault. Starting alongside Daggin Windbeard and Admiral Taylor, players battle through the docks and reclaim the keep. After regrouping with High Marshal Twinbraid and the SI:7 team, players set up defenses alongside Sully McLeary to brace for the final wave. The climax features a showdown against Horde commanders, including Baxel Brassbombs and Sunwalker Chagon, securing Lion’s Landing as a vital foothold for the Alliance in Krasarang Wilds.

Taking place in the Jade Forest, this scenario follows Alliance forces under the leadership of Master Admiral Taylor as they attempt to secure a strategic location against Horde attacks. Players assist by building defenses and coordinating troops to hold off waves of Horde soldiers. The scenario involves gathering resources, constructing barricades and traps, and defending key positions while under constant siege. As the battle escalates, players help turn the tide by defeating Commander Skargash, ultimately ensuring control of the contested area.


Patch 5.3 Scenarios
In addition to Heroic mode for a a couple of the patch 5.0 scenarios, patch 5.3 brings four more scenarios, all of which have a Heroic Mode option.

This scenario is a naval clash on the open ocean. The battle begins with defending your ship from an enemy boarding party before turning the tide by stealing explosives from enemy demolitionists. Players then plant the bombs to scuttle the opposing ship while navigating between vessels using ropes and cannons. The scenario culminates in a showdown against the enemy admiral — Admiral Hagman or
Admiral Hodgson — as you secure naval supremacy for your faction.


Blood in the Snow

In this scenario, players assist Moira Thaurissan and her Dark Iron dwarves in stopping a Zandalari-led troll uprising (Horde players wear a human illusion). As a magical blizzard rages across Shimmer Ridge, players must battle through Frostmane trolls, rescue captured dwarven scouts, and end the storm by defeating an elemental spirit. With the storm broken, Moira’s forces launch a full assault on the troll stronghold, culminating in a battle against Hekima the Wise, the Zandalari leader behind the invasion. The scenario showcases the Dark Irons’ loyalty to the Alliance while defending Ironforge from a growing troll threat.

In Dark Heart of Pandaria, players assist Grizzle Gearslip’s goblin crew who have unearthed a dangerous artifact in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The scenario involves battling earth elementals and corrupted creatures, gathering fragments, and uncovering the hidden Vault of Y’Shaarj. The climax reveals the Echo of Y’Shaarj, a powerful manifestation corrupted by Old God energies. The story highlights Garrosh Hellscream’s reckless pursuit of power and the tense relationship between the goblin workers and the Kor’kron overseers.

The Secrets of Ragefire is a scenario in Mists of Pandaria where players team up with the Gob Squad to investigate disappearances linked to Ragefire Chasm. Players uncover Garrosh Hellscream’s secret military operations, including proto-drake breeding and Kor’kron forces. The stages involve breaching a fortified gate, collecting materials to build a bomb, and defending the Gob Squad against waves of Kor’kron enemies before escaping via teleporter. The scenario also hints at Garrosh’s deeper plans in Pandaria.

Unlike the 3-person scenarios, the solo scenarios have a wide range of NPC quest-givers — where to pick up each scenario quest is noted below.
Patch 5.2 Scenarios
The Isle of Thunder solo scenarios in patch 5.2 are part of quests — most of each quest takes place within its specific scenario. As such, completing these scenarios and turning in the related quest grants you rewards the same as any other quest. The Isle of Thunder scenarios are not repeatable, with the exception of Trove of the Thunder King.

The Assault on Shaol’mara (Alliance) and The Assault on Zeb’tula (Horde) are parallel solo scenarios on the Isle of Thunder. Both involve leading an elite force to disable a spirit barrier protecting a Zandalari stronghold. Alliance players assist Jaina Proudmoore and Vereesa Windrunner, while Horde players aid Lor’themar Theron and Scout Captain Elsia. The scenarios culminate in defeating Arcanital Mara’kah and his Spirit Mask, opening the way for the factions to establish forward bases. These missions mark the start of stage two of the Isle of Thunder campaign.
It’s easy to find the NPC that starts this scenario, as you’ll be right in front of them after you go through the portal for your respective faction. The portals are found in Townlong Steppes at (49.7, 68.7) and
(50.7, 73.4) — next to the portals, speak to
Vereesa Windrunner /
Scout Captain Elsia in order to progress the questline and activate the portal.

This solo scenario sees players assisting either Jaina Proudmoore or Lor’themar Theron to breach the Emperor’s Gate by recovering lost explosives, detonating them, and defeating War-God Al’chukla, a Lei Shen-empowered Zandalari troll. The mission secures access to the Conqueror’s Terrace, advancing the war effort against the Thunder King. This quest follows The Assault on Shaol’mara /
The Assault on Zeb’tula (Horde) in the storyline.

Players will use the Thunderwing mount to infiltrate the Lightning Vein Mine, engage Zandalari Beastcallers, and defeat Beastmaster Horaki. Inside the mine, they join Shado-Pan operative Taoshi to fight through mogu forces and ultimately kill Slavemaster Shiaxu to unlock the mine’s gates. The scenario secures control over the Thunder Forges, advancing each faction’s foothold on the isle.

These parallel quests have players infiltrate Stormsea Landing with Taoshi to disable the Zandalari supply line by sabotaging the shipyard. Players use Thunderwing to stealthily bypass defenses, sabotage siege weapons, eliminate Captain Halu’kal, and defeat Hu’seng the Gatekeeper to open the gates for their faction’s forces. This marks a critical step in securing the Isle of Thunder.

The Fall of Shan Bu is the final scenario quest in the Isle of Thunder campaign for both Horde and Alliance. Players work alongside the Shado-Pan and their faction’s forces to storm the courtyard, defeat Shan Bu, and stop the resurrection of Nalak, a storm dragon. The scenario includes battles against Zandalari and Mogu forces, two gatekeeper bosses, and culminates in a showdown with Shan Bu. It ends with a tense ceasefire between Jaina Proudmoore and Lor’themar Theron.

Trove of the Thunder King

In this solo scenario, players infiltrate the Thunder King’s Citadel to loot treasure within a timed run. Players dodge traps, defeat enemies like Zandalari trolls and quilen, and unlock rooms by pulling levers. The goal is to grab as much treasure as possible before time expires, with valuable rewards such as Elder Charms, Burial Trove Keys, and rare loot. The scenario also features God-Hulk Gulkan as an optional boss.
To start this scenario, you’ll need to talk to Taoshi (51.4, 46.2) in the Bleak Hollow on the Isle of Thunder, and give her a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen.


Pursuing the Black Harvest
- Location – Black Temple, Shadowmoon Valley
- Notes – Warlock only; found at the end of a questline that begins with Enlistment Orders
This Warlock exclusive scenario takes place inside Black Temple, where the player investigates the actions of the Council of the Black Harvest. Players team up with Akama, uncover the council’s plans, and ultimately battle Kanrethad Ebonlocke at the Temple Summit. The scenario features stealth elements, demon encounters, and lore about Illidan’s influence on demons and the Black Harvest’s ambitions.
This scenario can only be started if you complete the prerequisite quests in the chain, which begins by finding a Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion and binding it to you with a Healthstone. The final part of the quest chain has you head to the Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley — the instance entrance is at (71.0, 46.4).


Patch 5.4
The solo scenarios added in this patch are all unique, with a pet battle tournament, a role-training scenario, and a Cooking-specific challenge.

Like the Thunder Isle scenarios, this this cooking scenario is done as part of a quest (The Secret Ingredient Is…). The scenario serves as a tutorial for the two cooking dailies it unlocks (Noodle Time and Noodle Time: Bonus). It involves managing a noodle stand, seating customers, making various noodle soups, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Completing the scenario rewards players with gold, XP, and the Pandaren Treasure Noodle Cart Kit recipe. Spoiler alert: the “secret ingredient” is the cook’s own care and passion.
Start this scenario by grabbing the quest The Secret Ingredient Is… from Sungshin Ironpaw (53.6, 51.2) in Halfhill village, Valley of the Four Winds.

The Celestial Tournament is a solo pet battle scenario on Timeless Isle, requiring 15 level-25 pets to access. Participants face three random Pandaria champion teams followed by four elite Celestial pets: Xu-Fu, Yu’la, Zao, and Chi-Chi. Healing during the tournament is disabled outside of victory heals. Rewards include Celestial Coins, used to purchase pets like Xu-Fu, Zao, Chi-Chi, and Yu’la, plus pet supplies. The event demands strategic planning due to its randomized encounters and no-heal restriction.
You can begin the tournament by speaking with Master Li at (34.6, 59.7), who is hanging out on the southwestern edge of the Celestial Court on the Timeless Isle.


Proving Grounds
- Location – Temple of the White Tiger, Kun-Lai Summit
- Notes – Role-specific training scenarios
- Achivements – 6 per role, plus 2 additional
The Proving Grounds is a solo scenario designed for players to practice or prove their skills in their role: DPS, tank, or healer. Available from level 1, it offers Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Endless difficulties. Players face escalating waves of enemies testing role fundamentals, such as interrupting, positioning, and healing — these trials are designed to prepare players for group content and improve individual performance.
You can get to the Proving Grounds by speaking to Trial Master Rotun (69.0, 44.8) inside the Temple of the White Tiger. You can also talk to your class trainer to enter this scenario.
