- Expansion: TBC Classic
In a passing comment in his post regarding free character migrations (FCMs) being planned for SoM servers, Aggrend coincidentally announced that Blizzard is planning to expand the current FCM service on TBC Classic servers, by enabling it on additional servers.
It is currently unclear if by this Aggrend means more servers will be eligible to to transfer from, or more servers will be eligible transfer destinations — though the former clearly makes more sense, as the trend of “mega-servers” (which dates back to September of 2021) has firmly carried on, with more servers being abandoned and players having stranded alts.
This is the first time that Blizzard comments on the topic of servers and free migrations since they discussed their plans on handling this tricky issue back in early January — almost a full month ago — with the conversation being centered on the new content arriving in phase 3 instead.
This will clearly make a lot of players happy, as mega-servers have been a largely successful project for many, with a common gripe being that a lot of servers weren’t eligible migration sources due to having major population issues on one faction. As a result, players elected to reroll on the mega-servers or transfer only a couple of characters, leaving several characters behind — a situation that Blizzard can now remedy, given that a lot of these one-sided servers have now completely collapsed on both factions.
What are your thoughts on this topic? Are you one of the players who has several characters stranded on one of the formerly popular servers, which were not initially eligible for FCMs but may now be? Or do you think Blizzard’s approach to handling dwindling server populations is inadequate? Let us know in the comments below!
All I know is that they better let you transfer off any server to any server (maybes besides to Jom)
so benediction is not a destination realm now. what a complete fucking joke by blizzard. they do absolutely nothing to stop this trend (you could argue they encouraged it) of players moving to “full” servers, and after MONTHS they finally open free transfers from thunderfury (ally population has been sub 500 for almost 3 months) and benediction isn’t a destination. I have been unhappy with blizzard’s (in)action for awhile but this really takes the cake.
