The Sunwell Plateau (SWP) raid became available for players to test on the PTR just 3 short days ago, and it will become unavailable once again later tonight, according to a post on the original forums by Kaivax. This is a continuation of Blizzard’s pattern of PTR testing, where raids become available for testing for a weekend, giving as many players as possible the opportunity to test them out.
According to Kaivax, Blizzard got a lot of great data over the weekend as a result of the test, but it would appear that players also got a lot of great data — specifically, as to just how difficult Sunwell Plateau is! At the time of writing this article, only ~10 groups even reached Kil’Jaeden, the final boss, and only 4 of them successfully defeated him – out of hundreds upon hundreds of groups! A large majority of groups barely ever made it past Felmyst, the 3rd boss in fact, which will likely spell trouble for a lot of guilds who are used to easily clearing every raid available thus far.
If Blizzard follows the tradition they have started, SWP will become available for testing again on Friday. It will be very interesting to see what changes they make, if any, after seeing players struggle as much as they did. Will they stick to their promise of giving us un-nerfed bosses in Sunwell, or will they see this low clear rate as an issue and adjust bosses to their post-nerf state? Only time will tell!
