Wintergrasp is a world PvP zone located just West of Dalaran, near the center of the continent of Northrend. Players in the area will always be flagged for PvP while they are in the zone, even for PvE servers. Getting to the zone can be a little tricky as there is no way to run there from another zone on the ground. However, you can enter the zone by flying, or being teleported there a few different ways.

Wintergrasp is an important zone to Wrath of the Lich King, as the faction who controls is also gains access to the Vault of Archavon Raid. The raid features straightforward boss fights that are added in different content phases. Further, by participating in the Battle for Wintergrasp regularly, you will gain access to items you can not acquire elsewhere.

Dalaran Portals

Portals in Dalaran spawn next to the Wintergrasp Battlemasters in either the Alliance or Horde quarters of the city when your faction control the PvP Zone. These NPCs will also inform you of when the next battle for Wintergrasp will occur.

Enter By Joining the Queue

The Battle for Wintergrasp will occur on a rolling 3 hour schedule, giving you the chance to participate in PvP in the zone multiple times a day. You can enter the zone by joining the queue for the PvP battle which becomes available 15 minutes before the battle starts. Once you enter then zone you can acquire your faction’s flight path, and return whenever you please.

The minimum level to enter Wintergrasp through the battleground queue is level 75.

Flying to Wintergrasp

Once players have traveled to Wintergrasp the first time, they are able to pick up the flight path from their corresponding camps and return from a connecting flight path at any time.

Players of any level who are trained in Cold Weather Flying can get to the zone on their own their own accord easily. From Dalaran, the flight takes no more than a few minutes. However, you are only able to enter Wintergrasp by flying if your faction controls the zone.

Any reason why that portal does not appear at lvl 75?

If you did not actually complete the entry quest into Dalaran where you turn in the ring and then port down to the ground and return, I guess the game does not believe you have actually gotten the prerequisite access to Dalaran. 😐 So finish those quests and you’ll be fine.

So, I was talking to guildies and had previously told them WG could only be done at 75+. Someone disagreed, saying they had gone in on a lower level character, and then someone that was definitely lower than 75 got in. I just wanted to say this guide is wrong, it appears you can get into WG possibly as early as 70.

The minimum level to enter Wintergrasp through the queue is 75. This is also therefore the minimum level for entering the zone for all players, outside of being summoned by a Warlock”

This statement is inaccurate. At 70 I was able to fly into Wintergrasp on my own. As long as you have cold weather flying you are free to enter the zone at 70 and above. You just cannot queue for the BG till 75.

I was able to ride from Icecrown to Wintergrasp. The SouthWest mountain has a wide ledge you can ride from to get into Wintergrasp and then drop down from ledge to ledge safely. As an Alliance, I only needed to ride my mount from the NW side to the NE side to “tag” the flight master. Also, I was able to ride from one side to the other easily because it was during a battle so no monsters were scouring around.

Also, from Sholazar Basin, you can use your riding mount to go up The Avalanche after battling NPCs. This will get you into the edge of Icecrown and ride your mount SE along a wide ledge to Wintergrasp.
