Addons & Macros

Beyond directly making your character stronger through talents, equipment, enchants, etc, there are 2 more things you can use in order to improve your performance as a player: addons & macros. It cannot be understated how much of an impact they can have on your gameplay — increasing your DPS or healing by a large percentage, preventing you from dying, etc. You will need the best add-ons & macros to be the best Assassination Rogue you can be!

Addons

General

• DeadlyBossMods – This allows you to track boss abilities. A must-have for raiding.
• Details – Shows you how much damage, healing, etc. everyone in your raid is doing. Flex on your friends!

WeakAuras

WeakAuras is a versatile add-on with almost limitless possibilities. It allows you to install mini-addons created by other players (which are confusingly also called “WeakAuras”) in order to perform specific tasks, such as tracking the cooldown of a spell, having a visual or audio notification when something procs, giving you a warning when a boss uses an ability, etc. You can find WeakAuras that suit your needs on wago.io. It’s strongly recommended that you use WeakAuras; they’re a huge quality of life boost.

While you may be tempted to use your old, familiar add-ons, Weakauras is the new ”add-ons” — there is almost nothing an addon can do that a weak aura cannot. This includes tracking buffs, debuffs, cooldowns even boss timers. – and it often does it better than their addon counterpart. Try and get familiar with it as soon as possible.

For assassination rogue, there are a few key abilities you’ll want to track:

• It’s vital you are able to track the envenom buff portion efficiently so you can pool your energy accordingly.
• A weak aura to help you track slice and dice should not be needed (as it auto refreshes) but does not hurt if you somehow can’t envenom for 30 seconds.
• A weak aura of hunger for blood is useful. The buff lasts a long while so it’s easy to lose track of.

Tricks of the Trade

This macro uses Tricks on a DPS of your choice and cancels the threat given, so you prevent him from over-aggroing.

You need to change NAME to the name of the player you’d like to use Tricks on.

Tricks of the Trade Focus

This is another simple Tricks macro, which casts it on your focus target. This allows you to decide who you want to use it on before every battle, by targeting that player and using the /focus command on the,.

Focus Kick

Casts Kick on your focus target, for fights where you need to interrupt and you’d rather avoid changing targets constantly. Does nothing if you have no focus target, or if your focused target isn’t a living enemy.

Vanish Attack Macro

This macro allows you to use Ambush on your current target with 1 button. If your raid doesn’t have a class that uses a bleed automatically (like a Feral Druid or DPS Warrior), you could instead change Ambush with Garrote.
