Beyond directly making your character stronger through talents, equipment, enchants, etc, there are 2 more things you can use in order to improve your performance as a player: addons & macros. It cannot be understated how much of an impact they can have on your gameplay — increasing your DPS or healing by a large percentage, preventing you from dying, etc. You will need the best addons & macros to be the best Shadow Priest you can be!
Addons
General
Shadow Priests do not require a large number of addons to effectively perform their rotations, however, a few addons can pretty much improve your overall quality of life! You will want to acquire addons that help you with overall boss mechanics and damage/healing tracking.
- DeadlyBossMods – Allows you to track boss abilities. A must-have for raiding.
- Details – Shows you how much damage, healing, etc everyone in your raid is doing. Flex on your friends!
- Healbot or Vuhdo – Both of these addons are incredibly helpful if you don’t use a mouseover macro to help with healing, decursing and buffing.
WeakAuras
WeakAuras is a versatile addon with almost limitless possibilities. It allows you to install mini-addons created by other players, which are confusingly also called “WeakAuras”, in order to perform specific tasks, such as tracking the cooldown of a spell, having a visual or audio notification when something procs, giving you a warning when a boss uses an ability, etc. You can find WeakAuras that suit your needs on wago.io. It’s strongly recommended that you use WeakAuras; they’re a huge quality of life boost.
As a Discipline Priest, you will probably want to create WeakAuras that can help you better track your Rapture’s cd as it’s your main mana regen talent.
Macros
Shadow Priests generally do not need all that many macros to be played effectively. However, it’s good to have some of these macros, as they offer a modest quality of life benefit.
Essential
These macros will help you significantly, potentially increasing your DPS by a modest amount.
Mouse Over Macro

Whats the mouseover macro do?
The macro featured in the guide is a template, and by itself does nothing.
Anywhere it says “Spell” you can replace with a spell of your choosing.
For example, if I replace the text like this:
The macro would first attempt to cast Power Word Shield on my mouseover target, if they are an ally with this section
If your mouseover does not exist, or is not friendly, it will instead cast Power Word Shield on your target, provided they are friendly, using this section.
And finally, if the first two options fail, the macro will just attempt to cast Shadow Word Pain with this section
