PvE Holy Paladin Gems, Enchants & Consumables

pve holy paladin gems, enchants & consumables

The pièce de résistance to any character. Gems enchants and consumables are used to elevate your healing abilities to new heights. Use the right combination of these tools to maximize your characters performance.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to enchants/gems/consumes. You either maximize Intellect and by extension mana, or you go for output via more spell power/haste. A combination of both is good too, and is probably your best move as you approach Tier 7 BIS.

If you are unsure what to choose, I recommend starting with the divine plea iconMana Build and taking note of your mana at the end of all relevant boss fights. If you end the fight with an exorbitant amount of mana, you will likely benefit from using some components of the avenging wrath iconOutput Build. To get a rough estimate of your character’s stat weights on a given encounter, use this tool. In the avenging wrath iconOutput Build section, you will find the stat weights needed to justify making the swap in green. Please note that the full Output Build is entirely experimental right now in T7, and will only be the best option in very good gear, and only on short fights.

Read the Stats section of this guide to gain a better understanding of our gem, enchant and consumable options.

Gems

Really the only choice for a Holy Paladin. This should restore between 1800-2400 mana in a two minute encounter.

The basis of the mana build is to stack int in every socket. In Wrath of the Lich King Tier 7, this is almost certainly the correct answer for all but a few fights. The alternative is gemming full haste, which we will expand on below. You will need to keep one socket free in order to satisfy our meta gem requirement.

Take the best socket bonus available to your character and use one of these prismatic gems. This will count as both a red and a blue gem, satisfying your meta gem requirement. Note that you only need a single Enchanted Tear or Nightmare Tear in your gear. Never use more than one.

Enchants

The only viable choice for a Holy Paladin. If you don’t yet have the Wyrmrest Accord reputation to purchase this, you can buy the Arcanum of Dominance with 40 Stone Keeper’s Shards.

If you are a tailor, use the Lightweave Embroidery for a massive spell power proc! Otherwise, use Enchant Cloak – Greater Speed.

Technically there is a more mana focused option: Enchant Chest – Exceptional Mana, but we do not recommend it. Unless your gear is very bad, you will find more value in the 10 intellect provided by Enchant Chest – Powerful Stats. Remember, Intellect converts to mana, crit, and spellpower through the talent Holy Guidance.

10 Intellect = 150 mana, 2 spellpower & .06% critical strike chance

The alternative to this is Enchant Bracers – Superior Spellpower, trading 16 intellect for 30 spellpower. This will net you more healing, at the cost of mana. To see other enchant alternatives that will boost your healing output, read the Output Build.

Hyperspeed Accelerators is why engineering is the best profession in the game for a Holy Paladin. We strongly recommend leveling engineering to at least 400 skill to acquire this enchant. If you do not have engineering, use Enchant Gloves – Exceptional Spellpower.

The only option for this slot.

The alternative to this is Brilliant Spellthread. In 99.9% of scenarios, spirit will be of no use to you, which is why this guide recommends the Sapphire Spellthread for more stamina. Spirit only takes effect after we stop casting for 5 seconds, which we rarely do unless something has gone terribly wrong mana-wise.

If you are an engineer, use Nitro Boosts for a massive speed boost once every 3 minutes. Use these to dodge a mechanic, or coordinate usage with your team to span large distances and save time. It also gives 24 critical strike rating. If you do not have engineering, your best option is Tuskarr’s Vitality for the 10% increased movement speed.

The alternative to this is Enchant Weapon – Mighty Spellpower, trading 30 intellect for 63 spellpower. This will net you more healing, at the expense of mana. To see other enchant alternatives that will boost your healing output, read the Output Build.

The only viable choice for a Holy Paladin.

Consumables

These two elixirs will grant 65 intellect combined, making them the best option for this mana build. It should be noted that in the majority of scenarios, you’re going to want to drop Guru Elixir for Elixir of Lightning Speed. Read more about this in the Output Build section.

Both of these do the same thing, so buy whichever is cheapest.

Always pre-pot a Potion of Speed one second before pulling the boss. During the fight you’ll have to determine whether or not you can afford to use a second Potion of Speed or a Runic Mana Injector.

Dark Runes were nerfed in WotLK, changing their cooldown from 2 minutes to 15 minutes. Still, it’s a nice mana boost and they’re quite cheap now, so there’s little reason not to use them. The one argument against them is that they share a cooldown with Healthstone, but in the majority of scenarios you’ll be better of using a Dark Rune.

Gems

Really the only choice for a Holy Paladin. This should restore between 1800-2400 mana in a two minute encounter.

If output is what you seek, stacking haste gems is the way to get it! Be wary of the intense mana implications, however. This option requires very high base intellect from gear, and is only viable on very short fights currently in Tier 7.

By using Quick Autumn’s Glow over Brilliant Autumn’s Glow, you are asserting that haste is at least 1:1 intellect.

Take the best socket bonus available to your character and use one of these prismatic gems. This will count as both a red and a blue gem, satisfying your meta gem requirement. Note that you only need a single Enchanted Tear or Nightmare Tear in your gear. Never use more than one.

This is the clear choice for maximizing output.

The alternative to this is Enchant Bracers – Exceptional Intellect, trading 30 spellpower for 16 intellect.

By taking Enchant Bracers – Superior Spellpower over Enchant Bracers – Exceptional Intellect, you are asserting that ~2 spellpower is greater than 1 intellect.

The only viable choice for a Holy Paladin.

Consumables

This is almost certainly the best elixir combination for a Holy Paladin in Tier 7 once you’re geared well. If you are struggling with mana, considering dropping Elixir of Lightning Speed for Guru’s Elixir.

By using Elixir of Lightning Speed over Guru’s Elixir, you are asserting that ~2 haste is better than 1 intellect.

Both of these do the same thing, so buy whichever is cheapest.

The +10stats on chest actually gives you 11 intellect because of Divine Intellect. Resulting in 165 intellect, not 150.
