Addons
General
You want any addon or weak aura that shows your auto shot swing so you can ”’stutter-step” aka move while your auto shot is going and then stand still for a brief moment to let it go off. It cannot be understated how important having and using an addon to let you stutter-step is — it’s essential for maintaining high DPS with this spec.
- DeadlyBossMods – This allows you to track boss abilities. A must-have for raiding.
- Details – Shows you how much damage, healing, etc. everyone in your raid is doing. as well as being able to compare yourself with other hunters when you feel something is off, and of course to prove that you didn’t die to the fire because details said you didn’t.
WeakAuras
WeakAuras is a versatile add-on with almost limitless possibilities. It allows you to install mini-addons created by other players — which are confusingly also called “WeakAuras” — in order to perform specific tasks, such as tracking the cooldown of a spell, having a visual or audio notification when something procs, giving you a warning when a boss uses an ability, etc. You can find WeakAuras that suit your needs on wago.io. It’s strongly recommended that you use WeakAuras; they’re a huge quality of life boost.
Survival Hunter should at minimum have a WeakAura which tracks your Lock and Load Internal Cooldown + Trinket ICD, and you want to use your cooldowns before they proc to get maximum output. Survival is not a very cooldown-based class, however, so that is slightly more important for Marksmanship. As stated before, you will always want to make sure you’ve got something that tracks your auto shots.
Macros
These macros will help you significantly, potentially increasing your DPS by a modest amount.
Cooldown Macro
#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/cast Rapid Fire
/use [combat] 13
/use [combat] 14
/use [combat] Potion of Wild Magic
/cast call of the wild
/cast Blood Fury
Blood Fury is only for orcs, if you are a Troll replace it with Berserking.
Kill Command Macro
Kill Command is not on a Global Cooldown, so it can be macroed in with any shot. Example:
#showtooltip explosive shot
/cast explosive shot
/cast kill command
#showtooltip aimed
/cast aimed shot
/cast kill command
You can do this for any shot or ability.
Focus MD + Pet Macro build in one
It will make you Misdirection your Focus target, if you don’t have one it will MD your pet (useful for farming by MDing to your pet, or raiding / being in a dungeon while having your tank on /focus.
#showtooltip misdirection
/cast [@focus,help][help][@pet,exists] Misdirection
Survive macro
The macro does not use both deterrence and FEath at the same time you would have to press it twice for that – so if deterrence isn’t sufficient you use it again to Feign Death
#showtooltip
/cast Deterrence
/use [combat] Healthstone
/cast Feign Death
Â
These macros are wrong. You want kill command to be before the ability or it will not be used. Since kill command is off the gcd. Ill post couple good ones off the top of my head
#showtooltip Multi-shot
/petattack
/cast autoshot
/cast Kill Command
/cast Rabid
/cast Multi-Shot
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/use Snowball
/petattack
/cast Kill Command
/cast Rabid
/cast autoshot
/cast Steady Shot
/cqs
This makes it so your pet auto runs back to your incase it might die and also removes any roots
#showtooltip Master’s Call
/cast [target=player] Master’s Call
#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] Saronite Bomb
#showtooltip
/cast [@cursor] Volley
The main one is a cast sequence macro for lock and load it will cast rank 4 all the time but as soon as you have lock and load it will cast rank 4 then press it again for rank 3 and again for rank 4 its pretty OP. Maybe if I remember I will post it here, since this site is known as trash and maybe people might actually learn what top 5% hunters are doing. Also Aimed shot is trash.
You are correct about putting killshot above the other shots – not doing so will still use it if you’re a button spammer but it’s not the most efficient way, the LNL macro however does nothing for DPS gain, all it achieves is saving an extra keybind, calling aimed shot ”trash” is also quite of a narrow statement, MS effects are fairly useful on plenty of current bosses – (IC HM, Freya, Vezax come to mind) as well as any log fight where the possibility of going OOM exists, they do the same damage as multi shot but at a cheaper cost, and eventhough I’m personally not buying it yet – sims suggest that aimed shot glyph is a better glyph than serpent steady and explosive shot, but I’m gonna go ahead and spectate that train before jumping on.
