In this section we will be covering the stat priority list for a Destruction Warlock as it applies to PvP combat in Wrath of the Lich King!
Stat Priority
- Resilience
- Hit Rating
- Spell Penetration
- Haste
- Spell Power
- Critical Strike Chance
- Spirit
Stat Explanation
For PvP, Resilience is the most important stat you can acquire – you will want to have around 1400 Resilience as a caster. Resilience offers reduced damage from critical strikes, reduces the effects of mana-draining abilities, and also reduces the overall damage that you receive from other players and their pets
However, since the Destruction Warlock has high survivability overall, you can drop some of the resilience to acquire more Haste.
Hit Rating is a stat that helps you land your spells successfully. Without this stat, you will often miss any spells you throw toward your enemies.
You will want to have at least a 3% in Hit Chance. However, you can choose to go as far as 6% Hit Chance to ensure that none of your spells miss!
Spell Penetration is a very important stat for any caster archetype! It allows you to pierce magic resistances, lowering the chance of your enemy resisting your spells.
The soft cap for Spell Penetration is 75 while the hard cap is 130.
Even though the soft cap can do wonders for you, you will generally want to achieve the hard cap through gems!
Haste is one of the most important stats as a caster because you will want to spam your abilities as fast as possible to overpower your opponent – be sure to acquire a lot of haste.
You will gain 1% Spell Haste for every 32.79 Haste Rating you acquire!
Spell Power is a stat innate to all spell casters, empowering their spells, and granting them higher destructive or healing power. You should aim to stack as much Spell Power as possible from your equipment, enchantments, and gems!
There is no accurate number for how much Spell Power you will want to gain. We generally recommend you stack as much as possible without sacrificing your other stats!
Critical Strike Chance plays an important role for the Destruction Warlock. Your goal in the battlefield is to literally melt your opponents by using Incinerate and Chaos Bolt. To aid that approach, you should strive to have about 25 to 27% Critical Strike Chance. However, you should never gem Critical Strike Chance or it will severely dampen your other stats.
Spirit may not seem as important of a stat at first, but it can grant you two very powerful effects. First of all, by using the Glyph of Life Tap you can convert 20% of your Spirit rating into raw Spell Power. Second of all, Spirit grants you a massive Spell Power bonus because of Fel Armor. Still, you should never gather excessive amounts of Spirit, since it can unbalance your other stats.
what about spell pen ?
Good catch! I actually forgot to add it!
Do i need speel pene cap ? Isnt more usseful curse of agony?
Since we have curse of elements (rank5: redusing resistances by 165) do we really need the hard cap?
If you don’t have it you can fail to cast the curse, if you get it and it is a class that can remove it it will be the same again, so it would be very random, from experience I would recommend reaching the cap or it will be very difficult, for example fighting against a priest
