Welcome to Warcraft Tavern’s Reputation Guide to the Sons of Hodir in Wrath of the Lich King Classic! Within this guide, we will go over all the ways you can gain rep with the Sons of Hodir, explain how to reach Exalted, and cover the rewards doing so can earn you.
All players will start off as Hated with this faction and will need to complete a quest chain in Storm Peaks in order to unlock the methods of raising your reputation. Unlike some of the other Wrath factions, there is no dungeon tabard available at Friendly.
Once players have reached Revered and Exalted, they will have a chance to purchase two mammoth mounts that unlock these achievements:
- Ice Mammoth – Obtain an Ice Mammoth (800g)
- Grand Ice Mammoth – Obtain a Grand Ice Mammoth (8000g)
How to Reach Exalted with the Sons of Hodir
You begin with a default reputation of Hated with the Sons of Hodir. To raise this and eventually reach exalted, you must begin and complete a questline in Storm Peaks that begins with They Took Our Men! from Gretchen Fizzlespark. Eventually, you will complete Mending Fences and A Spark of Hope which will set you to Friendly status and unlock the daily quests and token turn-ins you can use to get your rep the rest of the way to Exalted.
There are a few ways to raise your reputation after the mandatory questline. At Neutral reputation, you can begin the token turn-in, which requires 10 Relic of Ulduar. It is possible to raise your status to Exalted with this method, provided you have the gold. At each reputation tier until Exalted, you will unlock daily quests you can do for 350-500 rep each, netting 1900 rep a day. Two are available at Neutral, two at Friendly, two at Honored, and a final daily at Revered. From Honored on, it should take 19 days of these daily quests as long as they start doing Feeding Arngrim every day once they hit Revered.
Also unlocked at Friendly is the ability to turn in Everfrost Chip. These are mechanically similar to Netherwing Egg and will spawn randomly across Storm Peaks. Their subsequent quest grants 350 rep and can be completed multiple times a day. The final way to gain Sons of Hodir rep is to select their token as a reward for completing the normal dungeon daily for Archmage Timear in Dalaran. This awards 400 rep, but can only be gained once a day.
Later in the guide, you will find the quest section, which will illustrate the quest chain in Storm Peaks as well as the dailies and their reputation requirements.
Who Needs Sons of Hodir Reputation
Virtually every class/spec will want to invest time in raising their reputation with the Sons of Hodir. The shoulder enchantments they offer, listed below, are BiS for nearly every class/spec. The notable exceptions here are Tanks and characters with Inscription. Scribes will be able to craft superior versions of these shoulder enchants. Tanks will likely want to take Greater Inscription of the Gladiator, a PvP reward, instead of the defensive stat enchant (this is the only shoulder enchantment with Stamina, and is BiS the whole expansion).
- Greater Inscription of the Axe – Str/Agi DPS
- Greater Inscription of the Crag– Healer
- Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle– Tank. Only consider this early on if your gear doesn’t provide enough Dodge and Defense. The Stamina from Greater Inscription of the Gladiator is more valuable.
- Greater Inscription of the Storm– Healer/ Caster DPS. Depending on your class, some healers may want the crit on this enchantment over the MP5 from the other option.
Tailors will want to get their hands on Pattern: Glacial Bag, Keep in mind, materials may be more expensive than simply buying “Gigantique” Bag from Haris Pilton for 1200g. Jewelcrafters may want Design: Smooth Autumn’s Glow to round out their cut collection. It sells for modest prices at the auction house. Leatherworkers will be interested in Pattern: Mammoth Mining Bag, which sells for more than the mats are worth at the Auction House.
There are a total of 2 Blue-quality pieces available at Honored and 4 at Revered and they work as decent pre-raid pieces for their respective classes. Finally, the Sons of Hodir have Mammoth mounts available at Revered and Exalted, and each of these grants a corresponding Achievement (Ice Mammoth and Grand Ice Mammoth) once purchased.
