Whether you’re looking to grind daily quests, want those unique mounts, or just think jousting is neat, the Argent Tournament has what you’re looking for. While the “fun” factor of its quests is a matter of opinion, the tournament is unequivocally a good way to earn decent gold and XP, and get rep with multiple factions while doing so.
It can be confusing figuring out how the Argent Tournament works, but we’ve got you covered! Read on (or click a topic in the table of contents) to learn more.
Note that The Argent Tournament doesn’t begin until Phase 3 (Trial of the Crusader, Onyxia’s Lair).
If you’re looking for walkthroughs for the tournament Daily Quests, see here.
Why Do the Argent Tournament?
- You want gold/XP and you enjoy the daily quests the tournament offers
- You want the Silver Covenant / Sunreaver faction rewards
- You want the Alliance Vanguard faction rewards
- You want the many other rewards purchasable with Champion’s Seals
- You want the “Crusader” title
- You want to gain rep with a bunch of different cities (or one specific city)
- You like jousting
How the Argent Tournament Works
This section will serve as an overview for the Argent Tournament. For details and to see the specific steps required to progress through the tournament, continue to the walkthrough below!
TL;DR: Do daily quests to rank up in the tournament and become a Champion of your race’s home city faction — each rank up unlocks new daily quests. Once Champion, you can become a champion for other races’ home cities by following the same process. Reaching Champion rank also lets you earn the currency used for purchasing many exclusive items.
When you first arrive at the Argent Tournament, you will be Rankless. Speaking with the Silver Covenant/Sunreaver NPC Justicar Mariel sends you to will grant you the rank of Aspirant — this unlocks the first tier of Argent Tournament daily quests. These daily quests will reward Aspirant Seals in addition to XP and gold, and earning 15 seals will allow you to accept a quest that lets you fight for the rank of Valiant.
Once victorious (and you’ve turned in the quest), you’ll gain the rank of Valiant — this unlocks the second tier of Argent Tournament daily quests, in which you’ll be able to earn Valiant Seals. Collect 25 of these to unlock the quest that lets you fight for the rank of Champion. This will unlock the next tier of daily quests, which you can do to earn Champion’s Sealss (the currency required to purchase the Faction Rewards for The Silver Covenant. This is also the point at which you’ll be able to do the entirety of the Black Knight questline (see here for details).
The next step is to become a Crusader — this requires becoming Champion with all 5 cities in your faction, and also reaching Exalted with The Argent Crusade. Doing so will grant the achievement Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance/Horde verse, unlock the “Crusader” title, and unlock a couple more daily quests.
Walkthrough for the Argent Tournament
Aspirant
To begin participating in the tournament, you’ll need to make your way to the far northeast of Icecrown, where you’ll find the tournament grounds. Once there, head to the large tent on the western side of the tournament grounds, speak with Justicar Mariel Truehart Inside, and accept The Argent Tournament(A)/https://wowclassicdb.com/wotlk/quest/13668(H).
Next, you’ll need to head to the other side of the tournament grounds and enter the tent belonging to your faction. The Alliance tent is to the northeast, while the Horde tent lies southeast of where you spoke with Mariel. Inside, speak with Arcanist Taelis(A)/Magister(H) to turn in The Argent Tournament and accept the first of many “training” quests, Mastery of Melee(A)/Hordev(H). Boom, you’re an Aspirant! Unfortunately, the rest of the ranks won’t be quite so easily attained.
Now you’ll be able to pick up three quests from three different NPCs in the tent, which serve to teach you the basics of jousting. Make sure you pick up all three quests before leaving the tent so you can turn them in all at once.
The following quest directions will assume you are doing the quests in order. Click a quest’s bar to see detailed instructions on completing it.
Once you’ve turned in all three of these starter tournament quests, you’ll unlock three daily quests that allow you to earn Aspirant’s Seals:
- Training In the Field(A)/horde(H)
- Learning the Reins(A)/horde(H)
- A Blade Fit For a Champ(A)/horde(H) or A Worthy Weapon(A)/horde(H) or The Edge of Winter(A)/horde(H) (one of three offered at random each day)
Walkthroughs for these quests can be found here.
You’ll need to collect 15 seals in order to turn in Up To The Challenge(A)/horde(H), which unlocks the quest in which you fight to earn the rank of Valiant. This means that it will take you 3 days to reach the next rank, assuming you complete all 3 dailies each day. Once you have 15 Aspirant Sealss, you can turn in your faction’s version of Up To The Challenge and then accept The Aspirant’s Challenge(A)/Horde(H)
Once you successfully win your duel against the Argent Valiant, you can return to your faction’s tent and turn in The Aspirant’s Challenge(A)/Horde(H) — doing so will earn you the rank of Valiant!
Valiant
Note that the linked versions of the quests below are specific to a home city, and so the indicated quest giver may be inaccurate — in your faction’s tournament tent, find the delegation whose race matches yours to locate the NPCs who give out these quests.
After becoming Valiant, you’ll be able to pick up the quest A Valiant of [Your City] from the same NPC you turned in The Aspirant’s Challenge to. This quest asks you to speak with a delegate from your home city, who can be found nearby in the same tent. Turning in the A Valiant of [Your City] to the delegate will unlock the next tier of daily quests.
- A Valiant’s Field Training(A)/horde(H)
- At Enemy’s Gates(A)/horde(H)
- The Grand Melee(A)/horde(H)
- A Blade Fit For a Champ(A)/horde(H) or A Worthy Weapon(A)/horde(H) or The Edge of Winter(A)/horde(H) (one of three offered at random each day)
Walkthroughs for these quests can be found here.
These dailies will let you earn Valiant’s Seals, which work much like the Aspirant Seals of the previous rank. This time, however, you’ll need to collect 25 seals in order to begin the duel quest that lets you advance to the next level. Once you have the 25 seals you need, accept and turn in The Valiant’s Charge(A)/horde(H)and then accept The Valiant’s Challenge(A)/horde(H). This quest is just like The Aspirant’s Challenge, but your opponent will be a bit tougher.
Defeating your opponent and turning in The Valiant’s Challenge(A)/horde(H) will unlock A champion Rises/horde(H), which grants you the title of Champion once turned in to Justicar Mariel Truehart (found at (69.7, 22.8), she’s the NPC you spoke to when you first arrived at the tournament). Congrats, you did it! Well, kind of…
Before you leave the tent to go see Mariel, you can choose to accept one of the Valiant of [City] from the other delegations in the faction tent and start championing another city’s faction (you’ll need to become Champion of all five cities in order to reach the rank of Crusader, but we’ll go into more detail about this in the following section).
Champion
Becoming a Champion of your home city is really only the beginning of the Argent Tournament. Once you’ve turned in The Valiant’s Challenge to your home city’s delegation leader, you’ll notice that every other delegation leader has a quest available. Pick any city you like and accept their “Valiant of [City]” quest to unlock the Valiant level dailies for that city’s faction. They are identical to the Valiant level quests you did for your home city, and the process for reaching Champion with this faction is also identical — do dailies, collect Valiant’s Seals, and then complete the Valiant’s Challenge quest to become Champion. You’ll repeat this process until you are a Champion of all five cities in your faction.
Now we’ll discuss the Champion level dailies, which are how you earn the currency used to purchase The Silver Covenant faction rewards. After turning in A Champion Rises to Justicar Mariel, you’ll be able to accept Eadric the Pure from her. Turn left and head further into the tent to find Eadric and turn in the quest — this unlocks the Champion’s tier of daily quests:
Note that Death Knights have their own special version of these quests, picked up from the Ebon Blade NPCs near (73.7, 19.8)
- Taking Battle to the Enemy(A)/Horde(H)
- Among the Champions(A)/Horde(H)
- Battle Before the Citadel(A)/Horde(H)
- Threat From Above(A)/Horde(H)
Walkthroughs for these quests can be found here.
In addition to the gold, XP, and Champion’s Seal, these dailies let you pick from X or Y as rewards — you should almost always pick the purse, as it always gives you 10, and can also contain a Champion’s Seal (the currency for the Silver Covenant faction rewards, and the main reason people grind this tournament). The writ gives rep that you’ll be able to earn anyway by doing the dailies (although if you want to reach Crusader the writs may be helpful in some instances — see below for details). The Champion level dailies also give reputation with the Argent Crusade, which is important for reaching the level of Crusader in the Argent Tournament.
You now have two sets of Argent tournament dailies available to you: the Champion dailies, plus the Valiant dailies of whatever city you’re currently championing in the tournament.
Once you become Champion of all five cities for your faction, reach Exalted with all five city factions, and you reach Exalted with The Argent Crusade, you’ll earn the Exalted Argent Champion of the Alliance/Horde achievement, and unlock the Crusader title and dailies. Note that reaching the rank of Crusader will lock you out of the Valiant tier of dailies, however the Champion tier will remain available.
Crusader
Reaching the rank of Crusader will unlock a couple more daily quests from High Crusader Adelard and Crusader Silverdawn, who are both found in the same tent as the Champion tier quest givers, near (69.5, 23.1). Their dailies quests are as follows:
- Deathspeaker Kharos or Drottin Hrotgar or Mistcaller Yngvar or Ornolf the Scarred
- The Fate of the Fallen or Get Kraken!
Walkthroughs for these quests can be found here.
Just like the Champion tier dailies, these quests grant a Champion’s Seal in addition to the usual gold and XP.
Additional Ways to Earn Champion’s Seals
Heroic Trial of the Champion Dungeon
This 5-player dungeon is found at the Argent Tournament grounds, in the Crusader’s Coliseum. If this dungeon is run in Heroic, each of the three encounters will reward you with a Champion’s Seal.
The Black Knight Quest Chain
Once you reach the rank of Champion, you’ll be able to complete the Black Knight questline (you can pick it up earlier, but you won’t be able to get past step 5 until you’re a Champion). The complete chain begins with The Black Knight Westfall(A)/Horde(H) and ends with Black Knight’s Fate.
This quest chain gives 2,405 XP with the Argent Crusade as well as x3 Champion’s Seal, and therefore is well worth doing if you’re trying to reach Crusader.
Silver Covenant & Sunreavers Daily Quests
Once you reach Exalted with the Silver Covenant/Sunreavers, their Argent Tournament dailies will become available. Each day you will be offered:
- Two of
- A Leg Up(A)/Horde(H)
- Rescue At Sea(A)/Horde(H)
- Stop the Aggressors(A)/Horde(H)
- The Light’s Mercy(A)/Horde(H)
- You’ve Really Done It This Time, Kul(A)/Horde(H)
- One of
- Breakfast of champ(A)/Horde(H)
- Gormok want(A)/Horde(H)
- What do you feed a Yeti(A)/Horde(H)
Walkthroughs for these quests can be found here.
These quests grant a Champion’s Seal in addition to the usual gold and XP.
Argent Tournament Rewards
As you’ve no doubt learned by now, once you reach the rank of Champion with at least one faction, you can start earning Champion’s Sealss. These serve as the currency for purchasing a wide variety of rewards.
In order to purchase many of these rewards, you must also become the Champion of the city or Exalted with the faction that sells the item — the rewards are therefore organized by main faction (Horde/Alliance), and then again by city and/or faction, wherever relevant.

Note that The Argent Tournament doesn’t begin until Phase 3 (Trial of the Crusader, Onyxia’s Lair).
It is weird because they have already sent me an in game mail telling me to go there and do the tournament.
As of phase 2 you can do the daily quests to achieve valiant/champion/etc
