The Kirin Tor Reputation Guide

Welcome to Warcraft Tavern’s Reputation Guide to the Kirin Tor in Wrath of the Lich King Classic! Within this guide, we will go over all the ways you can gain rep with the Kirin Tor, explain how to reach Exalted, and cover the rewards doing so can earn you.

Keep in mind that all players, except for those who are playing Mages, will start out at Neutral with the Kirin Tor. However, when you start playing a Mage, your rank with the Kirin Tor will automatically start out at Friendly, at which point you can immediately purchase the Tabard of the Kirin Tor.

Upon reaching Exalted, you will have completed the following achievement:

• The Kirin Tor: Earn exalted status with The Kirin Tor.

How to Reach Exalted with the Kirin Tor

This section serves as a TL;DR for the rest of the guide

If you’re still leveling and questing normally through Northrend, you’ll probably want to start by doing the quest chain that starts with Nick of Time(A)/Horde(H), and then the chain that starts with A Strange Device(A)/Horde(H) — doing both chains will bring you to Friendly with the Kirin Tor.

Once you’re friendly with the Kirin Tor, the simplest way to gain rep with the Kirin Tor is to buy and equip their tabard and then run (H)Utgarde Keep and (H)Utgarde Pinnacle, or (H)Azjol-Nerub and (H)Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom. Both pairs of dungeons are relatively easy to clear, and each pair has their entrances nearby, which saves travel time. Additionally, you can skip killing the bosses and then exit/re-enter the instances after killing the trash mobs in order to earn even more rep each day. You can also run normal instances with the tabard on, although it won’t give you quite as much rep.

There are also daily quests available if you have the requisite professions (see below for more details).

Who Needs Kirin Tor Rep?

The Kirin Tor is a good faction to consider gaining reputation with if you need either of the head enchants listed below. The gear can also be decent for heroics and early raids — mages will want to consider the Robes in particular (as an alternative to the crafted Spellwave Robe). The Kirin Tor rings are also nice as they can teleport you directly to Dalaran. The two crafting recipes are both sought-after items, so even if you don’t intend to use them yourself, players with Tailoring and Jewelcrafting may want to get them anyway to list on the auction house.

Gaining Kirin Tor Reputation

There are a number of ways to gain rep with the Kirin Tor, including regular questing and weekly raid quests. Additionally, once you reach Friendly you can purchase the tabard and do dungeons — this is the simplest way to gain rep with the faction.

If you enjoy questing, you can do the quest chain that starts with Nick of Time(A)/Horde(H) — this chain starts with a level 71 quest. Another good option is the chain that begins with A Strange Device(A)/Horde(H) — you can also do this one early, as the chain starts with a level 72 quest.

In addition to the regular quests, there are weekly raid quests that grant Kirin Tor rep (once you’re high enough level for the weekly raids). Additionally, you can earn Kirin Tor rep by killing mobs in Heroic dungeons — as well the four normal instances, although it grants less — with the Kirin Tor tabard equipped. Finally, fisherfolk/chefs/jewel crafters have some dailies they can do in the mage city of Dalaran.

Kirin Tor Quests

There are a wide variety of Kirin Tor quests available, from regular quest chains, to dailies, to weekly raid quests. Below, you’ll find all of the quests in Northrend that give Kirin Tor reputation. Click a section to expand it and see the list of quests!

There are dozens of regular Kirin Tor quests you’ll run into while leveling normally through Northrend, plus a few that are completed in dungeons.

Kirin Tor Dungeons

You can earn Kirin Tor rep by killing mobs in dungeons while wearing the Tabard of the Kirin Tor. You can do so in any of the Northrend dungeons — see here for a complete list. Heroic instances will give better rep than normal instances, so do them if possible. As mentioned above, you can exit and re-enter heroic instances without killing bosses to grind rep via the trash mobs in the dungeon. (H)Utgarde Keep and (H)Utgarde Pinnacle, or (H)Azjol-Nerub and (H)Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom are the two best pairs of dungeons to run if you want to actually kill the bosses, thanks to reduced travel time between each dungeon in the pairing.

Kirin Tor Reputation Rewards

These rewards can be purchased from Archmage Alvareaux, the Kirin Tor Quartermaster who can be found in the Violet Citadel in Dalaran. As indicated by the list below, He sells a variation of items that are of rare and epic value. This includes items such as Pattern: Sapphire Spellthread and Design: Runed Scarlet Ruby, which requires reaching Exalted with the Kirin Tor.
