Corpse Explosion is a surprisingly effective burst damage tool for Unholy DKs, but based on the tooltip alone, it’s difficult to decipher the most effective way to use the spell.
On your own Ghoul, it triggers a hidden Ghoul spell called Explosion. In this case, Corpse Explosion will do 25% of its max health as damage, so things like Glyph of the Ghoul and stacking Stamina are easy ways to boose this spell’s damage. On a normal corpse, damage scales off of the DK’s Strength and AP, and is typically nowhere near the same damage as when used on the Ghoul.
Blizzard has received feedback on this lack of info and is considering updating the tooltip for clarity.
