WotLK has been out for less than 3 days, and yet we’re getting a second round of hotfixes already!
There are only 2 changes in this round: a minor bugfix to Utgarde Keep and a far more significant change to the Northrend Adventuring Supplies boxes that are rewarded by more difficult quests, as well as as the end of a dungeon as a bonus reward to tanks & healers.
Specifically, the chest will now have a reduced chance to drop consumables, while it can now drop ore, leather, cloth, herbs and gems.
The reasoning for this change is simple: the high frequency that players obtained these supplies with, paired with how chock-full of consumables they were, had a very negative effect on the Alchemy profession. Players were simply no longer incentivized to buy consumables from the auction house, as they could stack up on consumables they got from supplies. In many cases, the prices of consumables dropped to being lower than their vendor value!
This change aims to bring some slight balance to the impact that these supplies have to professions. They have been made slightly more attractive to players as well, as they now contain more than useless consumables, that players could only hope to sell to vendors!

- Northrend Adventuring Supplies now have a chance to award ore, leather, cloth, herbs, and gems. Reduced the number of consumables awarded from the supplies.
- Developers’ note: We received feedback that the bonus rewards for quests were too frequent, too lucrative, and too targeted at consumables produced by Alchemists, and are making changes to reduce the quantity and increase the diversity of items awarded by these bags. There is still a chance to drop consumables, but also a chance to drop ore, leather, cloth, herbs, or gems.
- Utgarde Keep
- The door that closes when starting the Skarvald the Constructor and Dalronn the Controller encounter will properly open again once they are defeated.
