Phase 1 of Season of Discovery adds some new endgame level 25 content to Classic WoW in the form of a zone-wide PVP event in Ashenvale. This event offers some valuable rewards including PVP gear, a world buff, and a special mount that can only be used within the zone.

Starting the Event

As of Phase 2, the Battle for Ashenvale PVP event is on a regular schedule. The event starts every three hours according to your realm time:

  • 1:00 AM
  • 4:00 AM
  • 7:00 AM
  • 10:00 AM
  • 1:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM
  • 10:00 PM

When the battle starts, a general will spawn for each faction at their Headquarters: a Far Seer and a Wow Alliance Crest Priestess of the Moon. These are boss-level enemies that will require many players to defeat.

Each faction will also have three smaller camps scattered across the zone where lieutenants can be found. Killing them will weaken their faction leader, much like in the Alterac Valley battleground. These sub-bosses are Blademaster and Wow Alliance Crest Keeper of the Grove. The scoreboard at the top of the screen will show how many lieutenants are still alive for each side.

When either faction’s general has been defeated, the battle ends. Everyone in the zone from the winning faction will receive 200 reputation for winning, plus 100 reputation for each lieutenant they helped kill.

Faction Buffs

When you’re within 40 yards of one of your faction’s lieutnants, you’ll gain a buff:

  • Battlefield Inspiration: Allies within 40 yards of a battlefield leader gain 50% increased health and 20% increased damage.

When you’re within 40 yards of your faction’s leader, you’ll gain an even more powerful buff:

  • Wow Alliance Crest Battlefield Genius: Allies within 40 yards of the Priestess of the Moon gain 100% increased health and 50% increased damage. These values are increased by each living Keeper of the Grove in the Priestess’s army, each one granting 100% increased health and 50% increased damage.
  • Battlefield Genius: Allies within 40 yards of the Far Seer gain 100% increased health and 50% increased damage. These values are increased by each living Blade Master in the Far Seer’s army, each one granting 100% health and 50% increased damage.

Ashenvale Map

Ashenvale has always been one of the most contested PVP zones in World of Warcraft. Both the Alliance and Horde have quest hubs in the zone, and it separates the Alliance zone of Darkshore from the Horde zone The Barrens, as well as connecting to two higher level zones, Felwood and Azshara.

Each faction has one major hub in the zone with an innkeeper and a flightmaster: Wow Alliance Crest Astranaar and Splintertree Post. The Horde has an extra flight path at The Zoram Strand. Both factions control multiple smaller posts throughout the zone where you may encounter high level elite guards. Horde control points are concentrated in the east while the Alliance occupies the center of the zone.

Bough Shadow in the northeast corner is a high level area with elite enemies that are level 60 and up. This area houses one of the Emerald Dream portals where world bosses could spawn in later phases of vanilla WoW. It remains to be seen if anything new will be done with these areas for Season of Discovery.

The entrance to the Blackfathom Deeps raid can be found in the upper left corner of the map. This former dungeon has been revamped as a 10-man level 25 raid for Season of Discovery.

Rewards

Players will be able to earn Honor as well as reputation with their Warsong Gulch faction (Wow Alliance Crest Silverwing Sentinels or Warsong Outriders) through the Ashenvale event. This will open up some of the best level 25 gear in the game, including some new items that are being added for Season of Discovery.

World Buff

By winning the event, you’ll earn an item with an on-use World Buff. These items can be saved and used at a later time, such as for a raid, but they can’t be used beyond level 25. Both items are rewards from a weekly quest that can be turned in at your faction’s Headquarters during the battle, or in your inn at Wow Alliance Crest Astranaar/ Splintertree Post when the battle is inactive. Here are the quests and their rewards:

Mounts

You’ll also be able to unlock a level 25 mount that only works in Ashenvale. This mount will increase movement speed by 50% within the zone. It uses the original unarmored mount models from vanilla WoW that were removed early in the game.

Since you can’t use regular mounts at level 25, these will be the only mounts available in the game during Phase 1.

there is no way blizz locks this event for PvE realms.

imo the most likely solution is that everyone is automatically pvp flagged while in ashenvale.

Horde gets the short stick in the mounts.
