This guide will cover how to get the Despair Rune for Priests in Season of Discovery. We’ll go over all of the locations and requirements in the walkthrough below as well as any useful tips and tricks.
- Rune: Despair

- Slot: Head
- Added: Phase 3
- Level: 45 (Required)
How to Get the Despair Rune
This discovery was simplified in Phase 5. Now, if you have discovered any of the following runes, you will be able to purchase the other runes for your alts without having to go through the entire questline again:
- Displacement for Mages
- Purifying Power for Paladins
- Despair for Priests
- Backdraft for Warlocks
To do this, visit Pix Xizzix at Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale (28.4, 75.8) and buy an Emblem of the Worldcore for 5 Tarnished Undermine Real. Then take this item to a Rune Broker in one of the following locations to obtain the rune:
Cut-Throat Alley in Stormwind City (57.5, 26.9)- The Forlorn Cavern in Ironforge (53.0, 12.8)
Cleft of Shadows in Orgrimmar (49.5, 46.0)- The Spirit Rise in Thunder Bluff (22.8, 13.8)

The Leyline Confluxes Questline
To get the Despair rune you must be at least level 45, or you will not be able to loot the items required.
You or someone in your group will need to use a Scroll of Geomancy or a Worldcore Fragment on each of four Leyline Confluxes in different zones.
- Worldcore Fragment can be obtained by Warlocks by collecting treasure with their Explorer Imp. (See our Explorer Imp Guide if you need help with this.) Previously these items were Bind-on-Pickup, but they can now be traded or bought and used by anyone.
- Scroll of Geomancy can be obtained by Mages by deciphering scrolls with Comprehension Charms. (See our Mage Scrolls Guide if you need help with this.) These items are Bind-on-Pickup, so they can only be used by the Mage who deciphers them.
You will need 4 Scrolls or Fragments in total to get the rune, but you can loot the items in a group, so it may be wise to group with other players so no one needs to contribute all 4 items. You can even do this in a raid group. This discovery is also needed by Mages for their Displacement Rune, Paladins for their Purifying Power Rune, and Warlocks for the Backdraft Rune.
When someone uses the item at a Leyline Conflux they will summon an Enraged Leywalker, a level 47 elite that you must kill to loot a Leycryst. Here are the locations and the items you must loot from them:
- Azshara (18.3, 79.6) – Azshara Leycryst
- Feralas (57.3, 61.8) – Feralas Leycryst
- Searing Gorge (54.9, 66.1) – Blackrock Leycryst
- The Hinterlands (48.0, 59.0) – Hinterlands Leycryst
You need to deal at least one point of damage to the Leywalker, or you will not be able to loot it. If someone has recently summoned the Leywalker, you may need to wait a few minutes for the Conflux to respawn.
When you have collected all 4 Leycrysts, you will be able to combine them to learn the rune.
About the Author
Scroll of Spatial Mending is not usable on the Leyline Confluxe
It is meant to be used on Fel Portals (aka fel tears, fel rifts, etc.). The Fel Portals are what the warlocks use for their Imp exploration. I purchased the Scrolls of Spatial Mending off the AH for 10g a pop and used two of them so far on the rifts. I didn’t get a Worldcore Fragment, but got other worthless loot. So it doesn’t appear to be a guaranteed drop.
