This guide will cover how to get the Frozen Orb rune for Mages in Season of Discovery. We’ll go over all of the locations and requirements in the walkthrough below as well as any useful tips and tricks.

How to Get the Frozen Orb Rune

As of Phase 6, all runes and skill books can be purchased from Rune Brokers in starting zones and major cities for 1 copper a piece. Each of these vendors is simply named “Rune Broker” and can be easily spotted by their purple glow, lurking very close to where new characters enter the game. You can see all of their locations in our guide below.

Original Discovery Method

To get the Frozen Orb rune, you’ll first need to reach at least level 52, or you will be unable to pick up the quest.

First, go to Felpaw Village in northern Felwood. Kill Deadwood furlolgs until one drops the Mysterious Darnassian Scroll, which you’ll need to decipher using a Comprehension Charm to get Deciphered Darnassian Scroll.

Go to the southern side of Felpaw Village to find the night elf Calyx Greenglow patrolling at about (61.0, 12.0) — use the Deciphered Darnassian Scroll on Calyx, then accept the offered quest, Healing the Healer.

Now head a little south to Irontree Woods and kill Irontree Stompers to loot an Unusual Flask.

When finished with that, head through Timbermaw Hold to Winterspring. (Note that if you have not become friendly with the Timbermaw, they will be hostile and you will have to do your best to run through quickly and avoid them.) On the other side, jump into the hot springs north of the exit, at about (29.0, 35.0) to find Calyx Greenglow again. Talk to them and turn in the quest. Kill the level 53 Enraged Shade that spawns to loot Spell Notes: Frozen Orb from the corpse.
