Gnomeregan is the abandoned capital city of the gnomes. This mechanically advanced city was once thriving, but it was invaded by mutant troggs that were eventually infected (but not killed) with radioactive waste. You’ll kill hordes of troggs and crazed gnomes on your way to eliminating the traitorous Mekgineer Thermaplugg.

Location & Map

The Gnomeregan dungeon entrance is located in the northwest corner of the Dun Morogh zone, around 24, 40.

Alliance can get to the dungeon by traveling through Dun Morogh from Ironforge. They’ll take an elevator down to enter the exterior tunnels and reach the dungeon portal.

Horde will need to pick up the quest Chief Engineer Scooty in Orgrimmar and head to Booty Bay to unlock the Goblin Transponder, which teleports players directly to the entrance. This is a huge time saver since the dungeon is quite a trek for Horde otherwise.

There is a back door to the instance which can be unlocked with the Workshop Key, but it must first be looted from Electrocutioner 6000 inside the dungeon. This back door is found all the way at the north end of the Gnomeregan exterior map.

Wow Alliance Crest Alliance Quests

Save Techbot’s Brain!

The optional breadcrumb quest Tinkmaster Overspark can be picked up in Stormwind, awarding 210 experience and 25 reputation with Gnomeregan Exiles.

Techbot’s Memory Core drops from Techbot, who can be found in the Gnomeregan exterior area outside the dungeon entrance. He has his own room which is marked in the map below.

Gnogaine

You’ll first need to pick up the quest The Day After in Ironforge. That quest will unlock this one, and awards 220 experience plus 10 reputation with Gnomeregan Exiles.

This quest can be completed outside the dungeon, so you can turn it in and get the quest below for your dungeon run. You’ll be given an Empty Leaden Collection Phial. Head down into the area of Gnomeregan outside the dungeon portal and kill troggs such as Caverndeep Invader or Irradiated Invader. They’ll be easy to spot because of their green glow. Use the empty phial on the corpse of one of these troggs and you’ll get a Full Leaden Collection Phial, which you can turn in to continue to the next quest.

The Only Cure is More Green Glow

This quest continues from the one above. Head inside the dungeon and use the Heavy Leaden Collection Phial on irradiated mobs inside Gnomeregan to get a High Potency Radioactive Fallout. You will need to use it on a living mob that has the green irradiated glow around it. Once you have collected the item, you will have two hours to turn it in before it disappears from your inventory.

Data Rescue

You’ll be getting a punch card and using it at four different Matrix Punchograph machines to get new versions of the punch card. First, kill the following mobs outside the dungeon entrance until you loot the White Punch Card:

With the White Punch Card in your inventory, locate and interact with the Matrix Punchograph 3005-A, which is also outside the dungeon, to get a Yellow Punch Card. You can see the location for this Punchograph marked with an A in the map on the left below.

The other three machines you need to use are inside the dungeon:

Essential Artificials

You’ll find Artificial Extrapolators all around the Gnomeregan dungeon. They are rectangular mechanical boxes that give Essential Artificial when you interact with one. They disappear when used, so you may have to scour the entire instance if everyone in your party is on this quest.

Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators

The Robo-mechanical Guts you need can be looted from a wide variety of troggs, slimes, leper gnomes, and mechanical mobs inside Gnomeregan.

The Grand Betrayal

Horde Quests

Rig Wars

Although this quest can be shared, it is recommended that you pick it up yourself. This quest must be in progress in order to pick up the quest Chief Engineer Scooty. That quest unlocks the Goblin Transponder that allows you to teleport directly to the dungeon from Booty Bay. The quest is offered by Sovik who is right next to Nogg, so it’s very convenient to pick them both up together.

The Rig Blueprints can be obtained by looting Thermaplugg’s Safe, a small lockbox behind the last boss of the dungeon, Mekgineer Thermaplugg. To open it, you will need to loot Thermaplugg’s Safe Combination from Mekgineer Thermaplugg.

Chief Engineer Scooty

  • Shareable: Yes
  • Level Required: 25
  • Start: Sovik at the Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar
  • Finish: Scooty at Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale
  • Objectives: Speak with Scooty in Booty Bay
  • Rewards:
    • 280 experience

You must have the quest Rig Wars above before this one will be offered. Simply speak with Scooty in Booty Bay to continue on to the next quest below.

Gnomer-gooooone!

To pick up this quest, you will first need to pick up Rig Wars and Chief Engineer Scooty in Orgrimmar. Then head to Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. You can get there one of two ways:

  • Hop on the zeppelin to Stranglethorn Vale at the tower outside Orgrimmar. Then run or fly from Grom’gol Base Camp to Booty Bay.
  • Hop on the boat at Ratchet in The Barrens, which will take you directly to the Booty Bay docks.

This quest simply requires you to wait a few moments for Scooty, and then you’ll be able to turn it in. He’ll give you a Goblin Transponder which allows you to use the transporter beside him to teleport directly to the entrance to Gnomeregan.

You don’t need to keep the Goblin Transponder in your bags at all times. You can simply talk to Scooty any time you need to use the transporter, and he’ll give you a new one. So you can save yourself a bag slot!

Neutral Quests

A Fine Mess

Kernobee can be found on the ground in The Dormitory, south of the Clean Room where you fight Viscous Fallout (see map below). He will follow whoever starts the quest first. You must escort him safely out of the dungeon before he blows up. Note that he does not aggro or fight mobs, so you can do this by stealth. Get him to the dungeon entrance and you will be able to turn in the quest in Booty Bay. If he dies and the quest fails, he will not respawn – you will have to run the dungeon again.

Grime-Encrusted Ring

Kill Dark Iron Agents in Gnomeregan to get Grime-Encrusted Ring, which will start this quest. Turn it in at The Sparklematic 5200, which is in the Clean Room near where you fight Viscous Fallout. After completing this quest, you’ll be able to do the repeatable quest below.

The Sparklematic 5200! (Repeatable)

Grime-Encrusted Objects can be looted from mobs throughout the Gnomeregan dungeon. You can bring them to the The Sparklematic 5200 (see map above for the previous quest) to turn them into Sparklematic-Wrapped Box, which can contain items such as gems, ore, pearls, herbs, enchanting materials, or bind-on-equip gear. This quest is repeatable and can be completed for every Grime-Encrusted Object you pick up.

Bosses

There are six bosses in Gnomeregan, including one rare boss who does not always appear.

Grubbis

Grubbis is the first boss encounter in Gnomeregan. Blastmaster Emi Shortfuse is located near the entrance at the end of the first offshoot to the left. Grubbis appears at the end of the scripted encounter at the end of the event started by Emi.

grubbis

Strategy

  • Tank: This fight is a tank and spank so you should focus on doing as much threat as possible on the boss, so the DPS can go all-out. Grubbis is accompanied by his pet, Chomper. Make sure to keep aggro on it as well. Grubbis and his pet can be stunned or feared.
  • Healer: This fight is a tank and spank so you should focus your healing on the tank. In case any of your damage dealers take aggro from your tank, you should prioritize keeping them alive.
  • Damage Dealers: This fight is a tank and spank so you should do as much damage as possible while watching your threat. Focus on killing Grubbis’s pet first. Grubbis and his pet can be stunned or feared.

Loot

Viscous Fallout

Viscous Fallout is the second boss encounter in Gnomeregan.

Strategy

  • Tank: This fight is a tank and spank so you should focus on doing as much threat as possible on the boss, so the DPS can go all-out.
Viscous Fallout is immune to frost damage.

Loot

Electrocutioner 6000

Electrocutioner 6000 is the third boss encountered from the main entrance of Gnomeregan, on the platform centered in the top of the Launch Bay. This boss drops the Workshop Key, giving access to the secondary entrance of the instance.

electrocutioner 6000

Strategy

  • Tank: Electrocutioner 6000 casts Megavolt and Chain Bolt which cannot be interrupted. Stay at max melee range to avoid chaining Chain Bolt to the melee DPS.
  • Healer: Prioritize healing on your tank, but be ready to top off the party after Electrocutioner 6000 casts Chain Bolt.
  • Damage Dealers: Electrocutioner 6000’s Megavolt and Chain Bolt cannot be interrupted. Focus on doing as much damage as possible while staying spread out to avoid chaining Chain Bolt.

Loot

Crowd Pummeler 9-60

Crowd Pummeler 9-60 is another boss in Gnomeregan, located in the Engineering labs. This boss is commonly farmed by Feral Druids for the Manual Crowd Pummeler.

crowd pummeler 9 60

Strategy

  • Tank: Tank the boss away from your healer, with your back to a wall.
  • Healer: Stay at maximum range from the boss and focus on healing your tank.
  • Damage Dealers: Crowd Pummeler does Arcing Smash in a small radius around him. He tramples the players around him, so be sure to stay max range if you are a caster.

Loot

Dark Iron Ambassador (Rare)

Dark Iron Ambassador is a rare mob that spawns near the Tinker’s Court.

dark iron ambassador

Strategy

  • Tank: Tank the rare mob away from your group, and pick up the adds as they are summoned.
  • Healer: Heal your group from max range, focusing on the tank.
  • Damage Dealers: Kill the Burning Servant adds as they spawn. Make sure to interrupt Fireball.

Loot

Mekgineer Thermaplugg

Mekgineer Thermaplugg is the final boss of Gnomeregan, and summons Walking Bomb adds during the encounter.

mekgineer thermaplugg

Strategy

  • Tank: Tank the boss in the middle of the room, so the Walking Bombs take a long time to reach the group. If you are Knocked Away by Knock Away, reposition in the center of the room. Be ready to immediately Taunt and build threat after each knockback, as his threat table resets.
  • Healer: Stand away from bombs that spawn and focus your healing on the tank. Other group members will need to be topped off, as they may take damage from the Walking Bombs.
  • Damage Dealers: Bomb adds will spawn that need to be kited and killed. If you are a ranged DPS, quickly switch to these as they spawn. Thermaplugg will occasionally do Knock Away. After the knock back his threat table resets, so watch your threat generation for a few seconds until it can be picked back up by the tank. Thermaplugg will activate his bomb machines more often at 50% hp and even faster at 20% hp. If your group is overwhelmed with bombs, you can briefly stop their spawn by clicking one of the buttons on the pillars around the room. Assign a ranged DPS to press the buttons in order to stop the bombs from spawning if they prove to be too much.
