The Glowing Hyperconductive Scale Coif is one of the craftable Epics added in the second phase of the Season of Discovery. This helmet is considered the Best-in-Slot for Elemental Shaman, granting the best possible stats in Phase 2. Crafting it requires a lengthy quest chain that involves exploring the irradiated former gnomish capital, Gnomeregan, venturing through Kalimdor in search of translocation beacons, uncovering the secret base of a brilliant yet mad engineer, and lastly, crossing paths with a familiar yet enigmatic Shadowy Figure.

You will need a handful of items during these quests, but you won’t need them all in one go. This means you could grab what you can get your hands on to start, and get the rest as needed.

The full list of items needed, in the order they are needed:

Part 1: The Grime-Encrusted Salvage and the Salvagematic

The first part of the quest starts inside the Gnomergan raid, requiring players to obtain a Grime-Encrusted Salvage to start the chain quest. The Grime-Encrusted Salvage can be obtained from both random Trash Mob drops and from Bosses. The item has a significantly higher drop chance from bosses, with some bosses even dropping 3 x Grime-Encrusted Salvage at a time. Alternatively, the Grime-Encrusted Salvage functions as “Trade Goods”, meaning that it can be placed in the Auction House or purchased from it.

Once you acquire the Grime-Encrusted Salvage, you need to head to the Dormitory in Gnomergan. The area acts as a safe zone, however, you will need to be careful when attempting to reach it as the path to it is filled with Trash Mobs. You will have to find the Salvagematic 9000 and use it while having a Grime-Encrusted Salvage in your inventory. Activating the Salvagematic 9000 while possessing a Grime-Encrusted Salvage will trigger the quest, The Salvagematic 9000!, requiring you to insert the object into the machine and pay 30 Silver to complete the quest.

However, after using the machine, you will quickly notice that it’s broken and unusable. Noticing this happen right before her eyes, a nearby gnome named Ziri offers to aid you. Completing The Salvagematic 9000! triggers the quest Salvaging the Salvagematic, with Ziri offering to fix the Salvagematic if you bring her the necessary materials.

The Salvaging the Salvagematic is the main quest that you will have to complete. This quest asks you to bring Mithril Bars & Greater Mystic Essence, both of which can be bought from the Auction House. Additionally, you will need GG12-082 Cartridge Fuses, which drop from trash mobs in Gnomeregan. Finally, you will need a Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor, detailed in the next section.

Part 2: Techbot and the Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor

Once you speak to Ziri and accept the Salvaging the Salvagematic, you will need to head outside Gnomeregan alongside your trusty raid group and attempt to find the Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E Processor. The item can be looted from Techbot, a powerful mechanical foe found outside the Gnomeregan raid.

Techbot is a powerful enemy and will require your entire group’s support to defeat it. Once defeated, Techbot will drop the Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E Processor, which can then be used to trigger The Corroded Core quest. The quest description is vague with barely a hint given, however, you will receive assistance from Ziri to find the creator of the damaged processor. Once you talk to Ziri, she reveals that Wirdal Wondergear created the processor and that he was last seen in Booty Bay, alongside a goblin, Scooty.

It is important to mention that you won’t be able to progress further down the chain quest unless you go and interact with Ziri after starting The Corroded Core quest. Talking to Ziri again will give you insights into who created the processor and where you can meet with an NPC who may repair the core for you.

Part 3: Trip to Booty Bay, Meeting Scooty, and Wirdal’s Beacons

After talking to Ziri and discovering that Wirdal Wondergear was last seen in Booty Bay, you will have to travel to Stranglethorn Valley and head toward Booty Bay. You can reach the destination in multiple ways: either by foot, by flight path from Stormwind or Grom’gol, or by taking the boat from Ratchet. Once you arrive in Booty Bay, head toward the teleporter located near the Salty Sailor Tavern and speak with Scooty, the goblin.

Talking to Scooty will reveal that he does know Wirdal Wondergear and that they worked on teleportation technology in Booty Bay together. He mentions that Wirdal left Booty Bay some months ago and was headed towards Kalimdor but that he can probably teleport you to Wirdal, granted that you find Wirdal’s coordinates.

This starts the quest Quadrangulation, in which you will have to find 4 different beacons to accurately pinpoint the coordinates of Wirdal Wondergear. The quest will have you travel across Kalimdor, with each beacon being placed in a separate region of the continent. The journey will be long, especially if you don’t own a mount! While you head onto this journey of finding the beacons, keep in mind that you will still have The Corroded Core in your quest journal. Do not under any circumstance abandon the quest by mistake, as you will deliver it at a later point!

It is worth noting that one of the beacons is placed underwater, meaning that you can use one of the following items/spells to aid you in your search for it:

While those items and spells can ease your search for the beacon, they are by no means mandatory, meaning that you can find the beacon without them as well. Additionally, the beacon in Feralas is reachable only by swimming to the location if you are a Horde Player as Alliance Players can take the boat to Feathermoon Stronghold. This means that either Elixir of Water Walking or Water Walking can aid you by shortening the time required to reach it.

Once you discover all four beacons, return to Scooty in Booty Bay and hand in the Quadrangulation quest.

Part 4: Wirdal’s Workshop and the Repair Process

After handing in the Quadrangulation quest, Scooty will teleport you to Wirdal’s workshop. It is a secret base where the gnomish inventor seeks to further delve into the mysteries of teleportation technology, guarding his secrets jealously with powerful automatons. Besides the story and roleplay meaning of this, Wirdal’s Automatons prohibit any kind of PvP activity, meaning that he will simply expel you from his workshop if you decide to attempt to harm another player.

Talking with Wirdal will grant you the quest Warranty Claim, requiring you to gather the necessary materials in order to repair the Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E Processor. This part of the journey will have you collecting two separate materials which can be quite difficult to gather.

The first material is a Spent Voidcore. It can be acquired from the Naga Spell Casters found south of Feathermoon Stronghold or on the Isle of Dread in Feralas. The drop chance for this item can be rather low, meaning that killing a large number of mobs might be required.

Keep in mind that the Naga Spell Casters come in different variants, with each variant being a Female Naga. Killing any Male Naga will not drop the quest item!

After acquiring the Spent Voidcore from the Naga Spell Casters, you will need to acquire a Mote of Darkness to combine it with the Spent Voidcore. This will be acquired from the familiar Shadowy Figure that we dealt with in Phase 1. You can encounter the Shadowy Figure by killing mobs in the world. The mobs have to be a high enough level to still grant you experience, meaning that a mob of at least level 37 will be required if you are currently level 40.

Once you gain the Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor, head back to Booty Bay and talk to Scooty to teleport back to Wirdal Wondergear in order for him to repair the Corroded G-7 C.O.R.E Processor. Once he finishes the process, you can embark on the last part of your journey, a return to Gnomeregan!

Part 5: A Return to Gnomeregan, Reunion with Ziri

Before returning to Gnomeregan and reuniting with Ziri, you will need to make sure that you have the following materials in case you haven’t had the chance to procure them yet:

While the Mithril Bars and the Greater Mystic Essence can be bought and the Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor was just acquired from Wirdal, the GG12-082 Cartridge Fuses can only be acquired by killing Trash Mobs in Gnomeregan. This means that you will require at least one additional Gnomeregan run to gather the materials, as it can be quite difficult to solo the Trash Mobs.

Once you have those materials, you can turn in the quest Salvaging the Salvagematic to Ziri, finally repairing the machine. Doing so will give you access to two separate things. Firstly, Ziri will now open her shop, offering you the recipes required to craft both your epic and the materials required for it. Secondly, it will allow you to use the Salvagematic 9000 to turn any Grime-Encrusted Salvage into a Box of Gnomeregan Salvage. The Box of Gnomeregan Salvage is a very useful way of generating valuable materials, granting you specific materials for the current professions you possess alongside a random number of A Pile of Random Parts. Something to always keep in mind is that the Box of Gnomeregan Salvage can’t provide you with materials for any other professions apart from the ones you currently possess!

All you need to do now is buy the recipe from Ziri and gather the required materials for crafting the Glowing Hyperconductive Scale Coif!

Part 6: Crafting the Glowing Hyperconductive Scale Coif

Once you acquire the recipe, you will need to gather the following materials to be able to craft the Glowing Hyperconductive Scale Coif:

Faintly Glowing Leather can only be created with Leatherworking! It requires 1 x Cured Thick Hide and 5 x Irradiated Leather Scraps. The Cured Thick Hide can be acquired either from the Auction House or by creating it with Leatherworking while the Irradiated Leather Scraps can only be acquired by opening the Box of Gnomeregan Salvage while possessing Leatherworking. Alternatively, you can directly buy Faintly Glowing Leather from the Auction House if you can’t craft it yourself.

Insulating Gniodine can only be created with Alchemy! It requires 1 x Leaded Vial and 5 x Crate of Tainted Gniodine Solution to be created. The Leaded Vial can be bought from the majority of Trade Supplies vendors and Alchemy Supplies vendors, meaning that it can easily be acquired. The Crate of Tainted Gniodine Solution can only be acquired by opening the Box of Gnomeregan Salvage while possessing Alchemy. Alternatively, you can directly buy Insulating Gniodine from the Auction House if you can’t craft it yourself.

Low-Background Truesilver Plates can only be created with Blacksmithing! They require 1 x Truesilver Bar and 5 x Reflective Scrapmetal to be created. The Truesilver Bar can be created with Mining or it can be found as a random drop by opening Ziri’s Mystery Crate or Sparklematic-Wrapped Box. Ziri’s Mystery Crate can be bought from Ziri for 3 x A Pile of Random Parts. while the Sparklematic-Wrapped Box can be acquired from the Sparklematic 5200 by inserting 3 Silver and 1 x Grime-Encrusted Object into it. The Reflective Scrapmetal can only be acquired by opening the Box of Gnomeregan Salvage while possessing Blacksmithing.

Thick Murloc Scale can be acquired by killing Murlocs in 3 distinct areas of the world. You can acquire them by killing Murlocs in Hillsbrad Foothills, Stranglethorn Valley, and Dustwallow Marsh. The lowest level Murloc that drops Thick Murloc Scales is level 28 while the highest level is 38.

After you acquire all the materials, all you have to do is open up your Leatherworking and craft the Glowing Hyperconductive Scale Coif!
