One of the new additions to Phase 1 of Season of Discovery was a mount available before level 40. These mounts are available at level 25 but are only usable within Ashenvale, and run at 50% speed instead of the usual 60% for level 40 mounts. Unlike other mounts, being hit by anything will dismount you. This means that you will struggle to use the mount to run away from a fight, making it more suited to run into a fight instead.
The Alliance mount is the Trainee’s Sentinel Nightsaber, and the Horde mount is the Trainee’s Outrider Wolf. These mounts use the mostly unavailable Epic mounts that were only ever available before Patch 1.4, making them visually distinct from other mounts.
To get these mounts you will need to reach Friendly with the Warsong Outriders for Horde, or the Silverwing Sentinels for Alliance. You can achieve this the old fashioned way, purely by doing Warsong Gulch, but in Season of Discovery you can also participate in the Battle for Ashenvale PvP Event for large amounts of reputation.
Each boss you participate in killing during the Battle for Ashenvale will give you a lump sum of 200 Reputation, and if the opposing faction leader dies, everyone from the winning team in the zone receives a Reputation bonus. Participating in a handful of these events will quickly get you to Friendly, allowing you to buy the mount.
These mounts are only available from either Illiyana Moonblaze for Alliance or Kelm Hargunth for Horde, and cost 10 Gold. These are your factions standard Warsong Gulch vendors. Illiyana Moonblaze can be found at the coordinates 62, 84 in southern Ashenvale, while Kelm Hargunth is found 47, 8 in northen Barrens.
