Naxxramas is the final raid of Vanilla World of Warcraft, and it makes its return in Phase 7 of Season of Discovery with some new and revamped loot to collect. Tier 3 sets, like every other set in SoD, have been overhauled to include new versions for every build. There is also a new line of trinkets which grant bonuses based on a new tag that exists on most Naxxramas gear, “Sanctified.”

Tier 3 Sets

Where the original tier gear from Vanilla WoW only offered one set for each class, Season of Discovery has expanded these sets to ensure that every build is included, with new stats, set bonuses, and recolored appearances to make each set truly unique.

Tier pieces can be obtained by turning in the appropriate token. Each slot has its own token, and the following classes share token types:

  • Druid, Paladin, Shaman
  • Priest, Rogue, Warlock
  • Hunter, Mage, Warrior

Tokens will most likely drop from bosses in the raid as they always have. In vanilla World of Warcraft, they were redeemed by turning them in to an NPC at Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands along with several other materials, including the various Wartorn Scraps that drop in the raid as well as valuable crafting materials such as Nexus Crystals, Arcanite Bars, etc.

Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian

The Naxxramas raid brings with it the legendary staff Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian, which has also seen some changes for Phase 7 of Season of Discovery. The stats have been adjusted and each version of the staff now specifies which class can use it.

Seal of the Dawn Trinkets

There is a new set of upgradeable trinkets in Season of Discovery that all share the name Seal of the Dawn. These trinkets offer scaling bonuses for tanks, healers, or damage dealers based on how many pieces of Sanctified gear are equipped. Most gear that drops in Naxxramas has the Sanctified tag and will apply to this trinket.

We have a separate guide covering the trinkets here: Seal of the Dawn Trinkets & Sanctified Gear Guide.

Naxxramas Trash Loot

Frozen Runes

Frozen Runes are found on the wall in various places throughout Naxxramas. They can be looted by using a Word of Thawing, which in turn can be looted from the many trash mobs throughout the instance. Each one contains four to six Frozen Runes, which are used in endgame crafting recipes to create Frost resistance gear.

Wartorn Scraps

Trash mobs throughout the raid drop various types of Wartorn Scraps, which are used in the purchase of Tier 3 items.

Trash Drops

There is also some valuable epic gear that can drop from trash mobs in the instance.

Kel’Thuzad

In vanilla WoW, Kel’Thuzad dropped Tier 3 Rings, which were the only Tier 3 items that were not purchased with tokens. In Season of Discovery, there is a Desecrated Ring token that will most likely drop from Kel’Thuzad in place of the actual rings. This is likely due to the fact that there are many more versions of the rings than there were in vanilla.

The Phylactery of Kel’Thuzad begins quest to get either Mark of the Champion or Mark of the Champion.
