New Avalon Mage Tower Enchanting Puzzle for Phase 8 of Season of Discovery (SoD)

Phase 8 of Season of Discovery has added four new formulas for the Enchanting profession. These formulas are discovered in the New Avalon quest hub by exploring the mysterious mage tower. Entering the mage tower requires first completing a puzzle. You’ll then need to collect four books inside the tower and combine them with the appropriate Enchanting materials to discover the new crafting formulas.

How to Enter the Mage Tower

The mage tower can be found by following the road straight through New Avalon toward the keep, then following the road to the right of the keep, passing between a pair of towers with lion statues on top of them.

Entering the mage tower requires completing a puzzle. Stepping through the arches on either side of the tower will make some colorful crystals visible. Walking through these crystals will give you a buff based on its color. You need to have the appropriate combination of buffs to enter the mage tower. The full solution to the puzzle can be found by clicking on “Puzzle Solution” below.

Enter the arch to the left of the tower to cause the blue crystals to appear.
Walk through a blue crystal to get its Blue Coalescence buff.
Enter the arch on the right side to cause red crystals to appear.
Walk through a red crystal to get its Red Coalescence buff.
Jump into the pit underneath the floating tree to get a purple Violet Coalescence buff.
Enter the portal in the tower doorway with the Violet Coalescence buff active.

Inside the Mage Tower

While inside the tower, you will need to avoid bumping into the Distracted Scarlet Wizards who are standing around and patrolling the tower. If you get too close to one of them, you will be teleported out of the tower and will need to complete the puzzle again to re-enter.

You’ll find many books on the shelves throughout the tower. Some are typical books that can be read by clicking on them; your cursor will become a spyglass when you hover over them. There are also four books that you can pick up. These will show a gear icon when you hover over them. If you have Enchanting, you will be able to Disenchant these books to receive special items that are required to discover the new Enchanting formulas.

How to Discover the New Enchanting Formulas

To discover the new Phase 8 Enchanting formulas, you will need the items that you disenchanted from the books above plus 1 Righteous Orb and 15 Illusion Dust for each one. That’s 4 orbs and 60 dust to learn all 4 formulas.

Take the required items to one of the Motes of Possibility found around the tower and use the item you got from disenchanting the book to make the discovery. There are exactly four of these glowing orbs, and they do not respawn, so you’ll need to locate and use a different one to acquire each formula. Be sure to watch out for patrolling wizards as you do so.
