New Avalon is a new quest hub in WoW Classic for Phase 8 of Season of Discovery. The area may feel familiar to you if you’ve ever played a Death Knight in later World of Warcraft expansions as it features prominently in the class’s starting quests. In this season of WoW Classic, we’re getting a glimpse of what the town looked like before the Lich King descended upon it with his champions. The town is completely controlled by the Scarlet Crusade, whose ranks you must infiltrate in order to uncover their plans and obtain some powerful new items.
New Avalon Location
The town of New Avalon is located on the eastern edge of the Eastern Plaguelands zone in an area that isn’t really part of the map. To reach it you must pass through Tyr’s Hand, the elite area in the southeast corner of the zone. There you’ll find an open gate that leads into New Avalon.

How to Access New Avalon
You will need a Scarlet Uniform to disguise yourself in New Avalon, otherwise the residents will all be hostile. Even with a disguise, Scarlet Bloodhounds will still attack you, so you will need to be cautious. To get the Scarlet Insignia that is required to activate your disguise, you must complete the New Avalon Introductory Quests up until you can get the quest named New Avalon.
Many of the buildings in the town are locked. Most of the doors can be opened with The Scarlet Key, which is obtained from the Library wing of the Scarlet Monastery dungeons. The tavern has its own requirements to enter. The abandoned building and the prison are shut and can’t be entered by any normal means. The gates in the northern wall of town are also shut and there is no way to get past them. You can jump off the overlook and swim north to see more of the coast, but there isn’t much to see other than some empty set pieces.

Florist
The small house beside the tavern houses one vendor:
- Abatha Rainwater <Florist>
- Sells flowers and bouquets that can be held in the off-hand.
Tavern
The door to the tavern is initially locked and can’t be opened with The Scarlet Key. You’ll need a Haute Club Membership Card in your inventory if you wish to enter, unless you have completed the VIP Haute Club Membership quest. You can get a Haute Club Membership Card by looting one from the locals or you can buy one from Devon Woods for 5 gold.
Inside the tavern you’ll find:
- Markus Hearthfire <Innkeeper>
- Despite his presence here, you will not be able to bind your Hearthstone to this location.
- Malorie <Food & Drink>
- Sells standard vendor water and meats.
- Gerald <Bartender>
- Sells some common alcohol items.
- Carrie Hearthfire <Head Chef>
- Offers most of the Cooking Quests.
- Sells some basic ingredients and recipes for Cooking.
Right outside the tavern you’ll find:
- Devon Woods <Security>
- Sells Haute Club Membership Card.
- Offers the VIP Haute Club Membership Cooking Quest.
- Pupper <Goodest Boy Yes He Is>
- Interacting with him provides the 4-hour Friend of Pupper buff.
Tailoring Shop
Inside this building you’ll find:
- Taylor Stitchings <Tailoring Supplies>
- Offers both of the Tailoring Quests.
- Sells basic threads and dyes for Tailoring.
- Crusader’s Loom
- The required crafting station for making Scarlet Uniform items with Tailoring.
Blacksmith
The blacksmith building stands beside the pond, and contains:
- Smith <Blacksmithing Supplies>
- Sells basic tools and reagents for Blacksmithing.
- Radiant Forge
- The required crafting station for making Scarlet Uniform items with Blacksmithing.
Overlook
Following the path through the hills from the pond, you’ll find a lone goblin on the cliffs, hiding behind some fake trees.
- Fizzlefuse <Opportunist Engineer>
- Offers all of the Engineering Quests.
- Sells basic tools and materials for Engineering.
- There is a teleporter here where you will land when you use Semisafe Transporter: New Avalon.
Keep
At the end of the road through the town you’ll find a large fortress. Inside this building are:
- Scarlet Stash
- These crates allow you to access your personal bank.
- Bryon Steelblade <Scarlet Quartermaster>
- Offers a Weekly Quest for a Scarlet Junkbox.
- Sells the Scarlet Enclave class tier sets.
- Alchemy Lab
- Alchemists can craft their flasks here instead of having to go to Scholomance or Blackwing Lair.
- Potion Rack
- Can be looted for a Mishandled Healing Potion, which starts the Alchemy Quest(s).
Mage Tower
Tucked away to the right of the keep is the mage tower, which can only be entered by completing a puzzle. Inside you’ll find items that are required to learn the new Enchanting formulas:
- Mote of Possibility
- Required to discover the new Enchanting formulas.
- You can loot 4 books here, which are also used in the discovery of the new Enchanting recipes:
Dock
Following the road past the mage tower and down the hill will take you to the dock, where a single ship is anchored. There you’ll find:
- Captain Bloodcoin <Seafaring Auctioneer>
- Allows you to access the Neutral Auction House.
- There are several Fish Barrels on the bottom deck of the ship that are used for Cooking Quests.
Leatherworking Shop
Up the hill to the south of the town you’ll find a large building beside the archery range. Inside this building are:
- Tanya Hyde <Leatherworking Supplies>
- Sells basic dyes and threads for use in Leatherworking.
- Crusader’s Tanning Rack
- The required crafting station for making Scarlet Uniform items with Leatherworking.
At the archery range in front of the building is:
- Kyndra Swiftarrow
- Offers the two Leatherworking Quests.
Nearby in the orchard you’ll find:
- Johnny <Fresh Apples>
- Sells apples.
Town Hall
The town hall is full of New Avalon Citizens. There are also two named NPCs inside the building and one interesting object:
- Mayor Quimby
- Drops an item that is needed for one of the Engineering Quests.
- Robin D. Banks <Professional “Scribe>
- Does not appear to have any purpose at the moment.
- Craftsman’s Ledger
- The book on the table in front of Robin D. Banks lists the number of Scarlet Uniform pieces that have been donated thus far for each slot.
