Season of Discovery (SoD) Overview – Phase 8

Season of Discovery is the current seasonal version of Classic WoW. This season features phased content releases that overhaul all of Vanilla WoW’s content, with a little bit of new content added to the mix.

Phase 8 is the first (and likely only) phase for Season of Discovery that contains entirely new content. With the last of vanilla WoW’s original content having been released in Phase 7, this likely-final phase of SoD will bring players into a brand-new Scarlet Crusade themed raid and quest hub, with plenty of new loot and rewards to earn.

New Avalon Quest Hub

A new, but familiar location has been added to the map for Phase 8. New Avalon is best known as the Scarlet Crusade-occupied town from the Death Knight starting experience in Wrath of the Lich King and beyond. In Phase 8, you’ll be able to access it through Tyr’s Hand, the elite area in the southeast corner of Eastern Plaguelands. A chain of quests will lead you into this hub, where you’ll disguise yourself to infiltrate the Scarlet Crusade.

To get started with this quest hub, you’ll need to complete the New Avalon Introductory Quests. There is also a chain of side quests available from Lord Barthalomew the Revered, the My Old Enemy Quests.

Profession Recipes

The New Avalon quest hub is also a crafting hub, and there are lots of new profession recipes being added in Phase 8. New recipes are available for all of the primary crafting professions. Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, and Tailors will be able to craft items that can be used as part of your disguise for the New Avalon quest hub. Engineers will get some new gadgets, and Enchanters will get some new weapon enchants, while Alchemists get a new healing potion. There are even two new recipes available for Cooking.

The long-awaited Scarlet Enclave raid is finally making its way into the game. Teased at the very beginning of Season of Discovery, this brand new instance will contain 8 bosses and tons of new loot. It is tuned for 20 players, but groups of up to 40 can enter. The raid will open on April 10 at 1:00 PM PDT.

Legendary Weapon

A new legendary weapon has been datamined for Phase 8: the iconic Two-Hand Sword, Ashbringer. This powerful weapon has a long history in Warcraft, and even became an Artifact Weapon for Paladins in the Legion expansion. Early in vanilla World of Warcraft, there was a lot of speculation around Ashbringer as a potential legendary weapon. Eventually Corrupted Ashbringer became obtainable in the Naxxramas raid, but the legendary version never manifested. 20 years after the original release of World of Warcraft, it looks like players will finally be able to get their hands on it. It will be obtainable for Hunters, Paladins, and Warriors.

Class Armor Sets

A new class armor set, or tier set, will be available for every class in Phase 8. These sets are versions of Classic PvP sets and Burning Crusade tier sets that have been recolored to fit the Scarlet Crusade theme of white, red, and gold.
