In this part, we’ll showcase the Single-Target and AoE rotations for Beast Mastery Hunters, alongside any Utility & Major Cooldowns they possess. Beast Mastery Hunters are very similar to their brethren in terms of rotations, having only a few changes when it comes to their overall burst.
Just like their counterparts, Beast Mastery Hunters are also dependent on timing their abilities in between their Auto-Shots. This concept is referred to as “Weaving”, effectively managing your Auto-Attacks, and making sure that they are not interrupted by your abilities. This means that you will want to cast your abilities either before your Auto-Shot begins or right after an Auto-Shot ends, to maximize the Damage Output. Beast Mastery Hunters also have to pay special attention to their pets as their Damage Output is considerably higher than when utilized by the other two Hunter specializations.
In addition, Beast Mastery Hunters have many utility tools in their kit that they will be required to use during PvE encounters just like their brethren. They have a considerable support role in PvE besides their main role as DPS.
Single-Target Rotation
- Pre-Cast Aspect of the Hawk
- Cast Hunter’s Mark (Refresh if it expires)
- Cast Bestial Wrath (Burst)
- Use Rapid Fire (Burst)
- Pre-Cast Aimed Shot (Initial Engage)
- Cast Multi-Shot (On Cooldown)
- Cast Serpent Sting (Refresh & Upkeep)
- Cast Aimed Shot (Main Ability)
- Cast Aimed Shot on cooldown
- Cast Arcane Shot instead of Aimed Shot until you acquire it (Leveling)
The rotation plays very similarly to the other Hunter specializations as mentioned previously, yet it adds a few new elements. Before acquiring Aimed Shot, you will want to use Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting as soon as possible before continuing with Multi-Shot. On the normal rotation, you will want to invert the order and place priority on Multi-Shot.
Basically, you will want to prioritize your Auto-Shot above anything else, then proceed with your other abilities. Both Bestial Wrath and Rapid Fire are used as your primary Burst abilities and should be used together in the best possible moments. Considering the duration of fights in WoW Classic, you will only have time to use them once per fight, so choose the moment wisely.
Your primary ability, Aimed Shot, should be used on cooldown and at the beginning of the fight as an opener. You will want to prioritize it above anything else besides your Auto-Shots, as it deals the highest amount of damage. The only problem with Aimed Shot is that it is a long cast ability, meaning that you will need to have proper positioning every time you use it. Multi-Shot comes in next in terms of importance due to its high damage. However, the ability has a gimmick that forces you to stay still while casting it. It is luckily influenced by your Attack Speed, meaning that while you are in Burst, you will find yourself casting it faster.
Since this version of WoW Classic doesn’t have a debuff limit on raid targets, you will also want to add Serpent Sting in the mix and refresh it once it’s DoT expires.
AoE Rotation
- Cast Multi-Shot (On Cooldown)
- Cast Volley (On Cooldown)
- Cast Explosive Trap (On Cooldown)
- Only use Explosive Trap if you can get close enough without missing a good Volley opportunity
- Use Single-Target Rotation while the rest are on cooldown
For the AoE rotation, there are 3 main specific abilities that Beast Mastery Hunters can use! Volley is the main ability that you will use for AoE, bringing the highest Damage Output but acting as a 6-second channel. Since it has a long cooldown, you will want to time it precisely when the mobs are properly stacked. Multi-Shot is the next AoE ability in your kit that works on up to 3 targets. No matter whether there are 3 or more targets, you will always use this ability on cooldown.
Depending on the type of encounter you’re facing, you will also want to use Explosive Trap on cooldown if it’s possible to reach the position of the mobs without endangering yourself. If you can’t, you should simply resume using your Single-Target rotation until Volley becomes available again, especially for long fights.
Utility & Cooldowns
- Disengage (Reposition)
- Feign Death (Iconic Get out of Jail Free Card)
- Intimidation (Stun & Threat Generation)
- Frost Trap (Slow)
- Freezing Trap (Freeze)
- Wing Clip (Slow)
- Aspect of the Pack (Mobility)
- Flare (Invisibility Remover)
- Viper Sting (Mana Drain)
- Distracting Shot (Taunt)
- Concussive Shot (Daze)
Beast Mastery Hunters, just like their brethren, have a very diverse kit filled with plenty of utility tools for any PvE scenario. Feign Death is probably the most iconic cooldown in their kit, being used in many scenarios, even as mitigation, as long as it doesn’t get resisted. Some players choose to use this cooldown offensively by triggering it after a Distracting Shot to instantly drop threat and kite mobs for a raid, forcing them to return to their original target. Disengage is another one of their tools that can be used for defense or offense, depending on what players choose to do. Some players choose to use it combined with traps, to cleverly encase mobs in ice with Freezing Trap.
Beast Mastery Hunters have one unique utility tool when compared to the other Hunter specializations: Intimidation. The ability is used as a major Stun effect that also generates a high amount of Threat, being very useful for peeling other players or using your pet as a temporary Tank.
Frost Trap and Wing Clip act as their primary slows, with the foremost being AoE and covering a large zone whilst the latter is Single-Target. Freezing Trap is used to isolate powerful entities, including powerful Elites but does not work on bosses.
The Aspect of the Pack is an ability that increases the movement speed of all nearby allies by a substantial amount, working even in raids. However, if any target is hit while having Aspect of the Pack active, they receive a massive instant Daze effect, which gets reapplied with each hit. This ability should be replaced instantly once combat begins unless you wish to cause a wipe. Flare is a great tool to discover any hidden enemies using Stealth! Although this is better for Dungeons or Open-World PvE since raids don’t generally have Stealthed mobs.
Viper Sting acts as a special shot against caster mob types, allowing you to drain their Mana.
Distracting Shot is a ranged Taunt that is great for repositioning bosses or mobs, especially when combined with Feign Death. Concussive Shot is a Daze that can affect a variety of mobs, being extremely useful for peeling for your teammates and safeguarding them while u place traps.
