Here you can find the best professions for Fire Mage, alongside any other useful profession and even the sub-par professions that should be entirely avoided. Just like any other class/specialization, Fire Mages benefit the most from professions that increase their overall Damage Output, with one profession that we all know and love claiming the best spot when compared to the rest.

Best Professions
- Engineering is known profession in WoW Classic, allowing players to create a variety of bombs, gadgets, and special gear pieces that greatly boost. Fire Mages can use Engineering to further enhance their AoE damage with Goblin Sapper Charge, Dark Iron Bomb, and Thorium Grenade, resulting in quite some insanely high DPS. Fire Mages benefit even more from those items since they have access to Improved Scorch.
- Tailoring is one of the best professions for Fire Mage, who wish to min-max early on, as the profession can be used to craft some real good starter gear that even rivals some of the dungeon/raid items. Sadly, the profession falls off later on until more raid recipes emerge, but it still doubles down as a great gold generation tool since it doesn’t require any other profession to generate items.
Useful Professions
- Mining is extremely useful, especially if paired with Engineering, as it allows players to gather ore and special gems. While on its own is considered just another gold generation tool, the profession is vital if you plan on using Engineering during every Dungeon/Raid.
- Enchanting is yet another useful profession if you plan on picking Tailoring, as it allows you to easily generate materials that can either be sold or used to provide enchanting services. The profession is, however, quite bad if you don’t pair it with Tailoring or if you don’t proactively farm mobs for items to disenchant, as it pales in comparison to other gold generation tools if you simply plan to AH the materials.
- Alchemy is one of the best professions for gold generation and overall resources during any PvE encounter. When paired with Herbalism or a large reserve of gold, having Alchemy will supply you with a nearly endless amount of flasks, elixirs, and potions. Similar to Enchanting, Alchemy is bad on its own, meaning that you will always want to pair it with Herbalism.
- Herbalism is an extremely good gold generation tool for any player as it allows them to gather herbs from across the world which can either be sold or used with Alchemy. The profession is very straight forward and has been widely regarded as the best gathering profession throughout WoW Classic.
Sub-Par Professions
- Skinning is considered a sub-par profession and should be avoided altogether as a Fire Mage. The profession is only decent throughout your leveling journey when you can AoE grind beasts, becoming a fairly weak gold generation tool later on when compared to the other professions.
- Leatherworking is a useless profession for Fire Mages since they can’t use Leather armor at all! The profession is only viable as a gold-generation tool since you can sell BoE items to other players or the Auction House, however, there are other far more valuable gold-generation tools in the game such as Alchemy/Herbalism/Tailoring.
- Blacksmithing is similar to Leatherworking, being useless for Fire Mages since they can’t use any of the items generated with the profession. Blacksmithing is only good for creating special items such as keys or enchanter rods, but other than that, no Mage should ever use this profession in WoW Classic.
