Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj Loot Guide – Season of Discovery (SoD)

The Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj are available to players in Phase 6 of Season of Discovery, coming in a revamped version! The raid is now tuned for 10 players yet it can still be accessed by 20 players just like in its WoW Classic original version. Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj features new and exciting items alongside a new difficulty for players up for an extra challenge.

New Difficulty Levels

The revamped Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj comes into a new variant, now a standard 10-man raid instead of the original 20-man version. Players can still raid it with 20-man groups, but it is tuned for 10 players in Season of Discovery. In addition to the player-count calibration, the new raid also features an increased difficulty level in Season of Discovery!

Players can activate a new difficulty named Descent into Madness by interacting with an obelisk before the raid’s first boss. By doing so, they can add new mechanics to each of the bosses inside the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj. The new difficulty doesn’t change the original mechanics of the encounter, but rather simply adds a new one for each boss that triggers every 30 seconds from the start of the encounter until its end.

Completing the Descent into Madness difficulty will yield bonus loot chests that contain items from the revamped Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj. None of the bonus loot acquired from the new difficulty is specific to it, with the newly added difficulty only being a way to improve the number of looted items per run.

However, the new difficulty mode involves a certain number of attempts. If players fail to defeat the bosses and they run out of attempts, they can no longer access the bonus loot chest.

Item Sets

Unlike the T2.5 sets from the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj which can be bought with reputation alongside tokens and idols/scarabs from the raid, the sets offered by the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj only involve collecting items and completing quests, without involving requiring a certain reputation level anymore. The 3-item sets from the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj also come in a single variant, unlike the T2.5 sets which are specific for each specialization.

The quests can be completed in Cenarion Hold while all of the items required to complete them can be acquired inside the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj. Some of the scarabs required for the quests can also be acquired from the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj as well!

Crafting Recipes/Spell Books

Season of Discovery brings a new set of recipes that can be obtainable from mobs & bosses from the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj! Besides the new recipes, players can also obtain Spell Books from each boss in the raid, just like in the original version.
