Scarlet Monastery Library Dungeon Guide

Scarlet Monastery was originally used for priests in Lordaeron, but became the home of the Scarlet Crusade when the undead rose. The Scarlet Crusade fiercely hates any race that is not human, as you’ll find almost exclusively humans throughout the monastery. It is split into four wings, each containing several enemies and bosses. The library takes you through the preserved knowledge of Lordaeron, ending at Arcanist Doan.

Location & Map

The entrance to Scarlet Monastery is in the northeast corner of Tirisfal Glades. Inside the main building are dungeon portals for each of the four wings. The Library wing is the open portal that is farthest to the right as you enter.

Horde can easily reach the Scarlet Monastery from Undercity, but Alliance will have a bit more of a trek to get there, likely passing through Silverpine Forest from Hillsbrad Foothills.

Wow Alliance Crest Alliance Quests

In the Name of the Light

This chain starts with the quest Brother Anton, which is offered by Brother Crowley in at the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind. He’ll send you all the way to Desolace to speak with Brother Anton, who will ask you to kill 30 Undead Ravagers nearby. Then you’ll be sent to Hillsbrad Foothills to speak with Raleigh the Devout at the inn in Southshore, who will give you this quest.

To complete the quest, you’ll need to kill bosses in three of the four wings of Scarlet Monastery:

Mythology of the Titans

The book you’re asked to retrieve is on the floor in one of the hallways, beneath a window (see map below). It will disappear when someone loots it, but it should respawn again after a short time.

Into The Scarlet Monastery

To complete the quest, you’ll need to kill bosses in three of the four wings of Scarlet Monastery:

Hearts of Zeal

To pick up this quest, you must first complete the quest Going, Going, Guano! in Razorfen Kraul. It is offered by the same quest giver.

Heart of Zeal can be looted from numerous Scarlet humans in any wing of Scarlet Monastery and even in the area outside the dungeons.

Compendium of the Fallen (Taurens, Trolls, & Orcs Only)

This quest is not available to undead characters.

The book you’re asked to retrieve can be found on a bookshelf in the corner room between the last two hallways (see map below). It will disappear when someone loots it, but it should respawn again after a short time.

Test of Lore

This is a very long chain of quests starting with Test of Faith given by Dorn Plainstalker in a cave in Thousand Needles, northeast of Freewind Post. You’ll first need to jump off the cliff nearby, then retrieve Grenka’s Claw from Grenka Bloodscreech and Fragments of Rok’Alim from Rok’Alim the Pounder. Then you’ll visit Braug Dimspirit at Windshear Crag in Stonetalon Mountains, who’ll send you to Ashenvale to get the book Legacy of the Aspects, which you’ll find open on a podium (object) deep within The Dor’Danil Barrow. Next you’ll have to answer his question correctly – you’ll be teleported to The Barrens if you get it wrong, so be sure to respond with “Neltharion is my answer.” Then you’ll finally be able to head to Undercity and pick up this quest from Parqual Fintallas.

The book you need is on top of a table in a small room along one of the red-carpeted hallways after you pass through the courtyard (see map below).

  • Objectives: Retrieve Rituals of Power from Scarlet Monastery Library and return to Tabetha
  • Rewards:
    • 3150 experience

This quest is exclusive to Mages. Visit the Mage Trainer in any major city to start the breadcrumb quest, Journey to the Marsh. Then head to Dustwallow Marsh and speak with Tabetha at the little house in The Quagmire near the center of the map. She’ll point you to Magus Tirth at The Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles. He’ll ask you to find a password; you can do this by targeting a chicken named “Plucky” Johnson and typing /beckon in chat, then speaking with him when he turns into a human. Return to Magus Tirth to pick up this quest.

The book you need can be found just inside the last stretch of hallway in Scarlet Monastery Library, near the Compendium of the Fallen for Horde players (see map below). You can continue to the next and final quest of the chain to receive your choice of a wand: Icefury Wand, Nether Force Wand, or Ragefire Wand.

Bosses

There are only two bosses inside the Library wing of Scarlet Monastery.

Houndmaster Loksey

Houndmaster Loksey is the first boss of Scarlet Monastery Library. He is a level 34 elite Scarlet Crusade human, accompanied by three Scarlet Tracking Hounds.

Strategy

  • Tank: Mark the hounds with a Skull and X and prioritize threat on those targets. Use any AoE abilities you have to maintain threat on all of the hounds, and the boss. Beware that when the boss and his hounds are under the effect of Bloodlust, they will do a lot of damage. Use defensive cooldowns, health potions and healthstones if you get low.
  • Healer: This fight is a tank and spank so you should focus your healing on the tank. In case any of your damage dealers take aggro from your tank, you should prioritize keeping them alive. Houndmaster Loksey deals high amounts of damage and the fight is relatively long, so manage your mana. If you are a shaman or a priest, use Purge or Dispel Magic to remove the Bloodlust effect off both the boss and his hounds.
  • Damage Dealers: This fight is a tank and spank so you should do as much damage as possible while watching your threat. Houndmaster Loksey is accompanied by a pack of Scarlet Hounds that need to be focused first. Area of Effect spells and abilities are highly useful in this encounter, but be sure to give your tank some time to generate threat before AoEing. If your class has an offensive dispel such as Purge or Dispel Magic, use it to dispel the Bloodlust buff on the boss and his hounds.

Arcanist Doan

Arcanist Doan is the last boss of Scarlet Monastery Library. Arcanist Doan is a level 37 Scarlet Crusade human. He is not accompanied by any adds but in order to reach him you must clear the instance to get to his chamber.

Strategy

  • Tank: This fight requires tactical maneuvering, cooldowns management, and a great deal of caution. Arcanist Doan is not accompanied by any adds but poses great danger alone, use your defensive cooldowns cautiously. Beware of losing threat, as Arcanist Doan can easily kill your damage dealers. When Arcanist Doan casts Detonation, move outside his room and hide next to the walls of his chamber.
  • Healer: This fight requires tactical maneuvering, mana management, and a great deal of caution. Arcanist Doan will frequently apply Silence on the players. Keep your party’s health pool up at all times while managing your mana. When Arcanist Doan casts Detonation, move outside his room and hide next to the walls of his chamber. Arcanist Doan’s Polymorph can be avoided if you place yourself 30 yards away from him.
  • Damage Dealers: This fight requires tactical maneuvering, mana management, and a great deal of caution. Arcanist Doan possesses several abilities that will hinder damage dealers. His abilities cannot be interrupted. Damage dealers along with the Tank and Healer should get out of the room when Arcanist Doan casts Detonation and hide next to the walls of his chamber. Arcanist Doan can be mana drained in order to stop him from casting his spells.
