- Expansion: WoW Classic
Phase 5 of Season of Discovery retains the 300 skill cap introduced in Phase 3 for professions, allowing players to max out all of their crafting and gathering skills in case they haven’t already done so. For the Alchemy profession, that means you’ll be able to brew up almost any potion or elixir in the game, as well as a few new recipes that have been added for this season.
Alchemy Leveling & Trainers
Check out our Classic Alchemy Guide for trainer locations, a leveling guide, and more. Everything in that guide applies to Season of Discovery except for the level requirements for higher skill ranks (level 26 for Expert and level 41 for Artisan). There are some new recipes that are exclusive to Season of Discovery which we’ll cover in this guide, but they aren’t needed for leveling.
Learning Artisan Alchemy
From Phase 3 onward, players were able to level their professions all the way to 300 skill, or Artisan level – the maximum skill for Vanilla WoW.
Artisan Alchemy can only be learned from these specific trainers:
- Kylanna Windwhisper at Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas (32.6, 43.8)
- Rogvar at Stonard in Swamp of Sorrows (48.5, 55.9)
Alchemy Specializations
Upon reaching 275 Alchemy skill, Alchemists are now able to pick up two crafting specialization quests that will increase the yield of their crafting recipes.
These quests are Mixology for Fun and Profit, which increases the number of potions and elixirs you’ll craft, and Master of Transmutation, which increases the number of items you’ll produce with transmutation recipes.
For a walkthrough of these quests, check out our Alchemy Specialization Quests Guide.
New Alchemy Recipes for Season of Discovery
Several new recipes have been added to the Alchemy profession for Season of Discovery.
Phase 5 and Phase 4 of Season of Discovery don’t add any new Alchemy Recipes, however, Phase 4 adds a new and easy way of acquiring Flask recipes. Phase 5 retains the same Zandalar Tribe recipes as the ones that could be acquired in vanilla WoW. All the rest of the new recipes added from previous phases are still present in the game in Phase 5!
Phase 4 adds five Flask recipes that can be obtained with the new Tarnished Undermine Real currency from Pix Xizzix:
- Recipe: Flask of Petrification – 50 x Tarnished Undermine Real
- Recipe: Flask of the Titans – 50 x Tarnished Undermine Real
- Recipe: Flask of Distilled Wisdom – 50 x Tarnished Undermine Real
- Recipe: Flask of Supreme Power – 50 x Tarnished Undermine Real
- Recipe: Flask of Chromatic Resistance – 50 x Tarnished Undermine Real
Phase 3 adds three new flasks to the game:
- Flask of Everlasting Nightmares is a reusable Bind-on-Pickup consumable item for physical damage dealers
- Flask of Restless Dreams is a reusable Bind-on-Pickup consumable item for casters and healers
- Flask of Nightmarish Mojo can be traded for new shoulder enchantments on Yojamba Isle
The following recipes were added in Phase 2:
- Mildly Irradiated Rejuvenation Potion is a Bind-on-Pickup item for Alchemists that provides a powerful personal buff
- Insulating Gniodine is a component used by other crafting skills
- Lesser Arcane Elixir is a new elixir for caster dps
One new Alchemy recipe was added to the game for Phase 1:
- Elixir of Coalesced Regret is used for crafting some level 25 epic items for Blacksmithing and Tailoring
Phase 5 Alchemy Recipes
Here are the best Alchemy recipes you can craft in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery, sorted by type.
Flasks
As Phase 5 has both Scholomance and Blackwing Lair available with their respective Alchemy Tables, players are now able to craft Flasks, with the recipes being easily acquired from Pix Xizzix. You may still continue to gain the recipes in the traditional Vanilla Wow way by looting recipes dropped from level 60 bosses, although this method is far more time-consuming considering the drop chances.
You may still acquire the previous available Flask recipes which were tied to the Phase 3 Sunken Temple raid chain quest even in Phase 5!

Elixirs
For this guide, we’ve categorized elixirs as consumables that last for more than a few minutes.
Phase 5 finally makes the recipes for Mageblood Potion and Major Troll’s Blood Potion accessible with the release of Zul’Gurub. However, the recipe for Elixir of Greater Firepower will not be added until the Ahn’Qiraj raids become available.
Protection Potions
Most of the Greater Protection Potions will be out of reach this phase since their recipes require killing very high-level elites and bosses. You’ll be able to craft the basic versions of these potions, however.

Phase 5 of Season of Discovery makes most of the recipes available, with the release of Zul’Gurub granting access to even more potions such as the Greater Dreamless Sleep Potion, Gurubashi Mojo Madness, and Living Action Potion. Additionally, all the vanilla potions that could be acquired at level 60 became available in Phase 4.

Transmutes
High-level Alchemists gain access to transmutation recipes, which allow them to transform one item (such as a metal bar or an elemental essence) into another of the same kind. Most of these recipes have a shared cooldown of one day.
Transmutation is the only way to get Arcanite Bars, which will be needed to craft the highly-sought after Nightfall and Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker weapons at level 60. This transmutation will put all of your transmutes on cooldown for two days.

so nightelf priest alchemist is good to go. nice.
Recently went to take a gander at Trade, and I saw listed some of the potions that are in Phase 2, how is that possible?
It depends which potions they are. I have some listed in both phases since they will still be relevant in phase 2. Some potions like the healing & mana potions might be found as loot even in Phase 1, but won’t be craftable with Alchemy yet.
