Engineering Guide for Season of Discovery (SoD) Phase 5

Engineering Guide for Season of Discovery (SoD)

Phase 5 of Season of Discovery retains the 300 skill cap introduced in Phase 3 for professions, allowing players to max out their crafting and gathering skills in case they haven’t already done so. For the Engineering profession, that means you’ll be able to craft all kinds of interesting gadgets and explosives!

Engineering Leveling & Trainers

Check out our Classic Engineering Guide for trainer locations, a leveling guide, and more. Everything in that guide applies to Season of Discovery except for the level requirements for higher skill ranks (level 26 for Expert and level 41 for Artisan). There are some new recipes that are exclusive to Season of Discovery which we’ll cover in this guide, but they aren’t needed for leveling.

Learning Artisan Engineering

From Phase 3 onward, players were able to level their professions all the way to 300 skill, or Artisan level – the maximum skill for Vanilla WoW.

Artisan Engineering can only be learned from one specific trainer:

Engineering Specializations

Along with the Artisan Engineering skill, players are now able to learn either Gnomish Engineering or Goblin Engineering. These specializations allow you to craft the specialization-exclusive schematics which you can see marked in the tables later in this guide. The Season of Discovery further expands upon the Engineering Specializations, allowing players to learn any schematic that is tied to a specialization as long as they already have one of the two available specializations. For example, a player with Goblin Engineering will be able to learn the schematics provided by Gnomish Engineering as well.

For a complete breakdown of what each specialization offers and a walkthrough for completing the quests, check out our Engineering Specializations Guide.

Gnome Engineering Racial

Gnomes have an advantage in leveling the Engineering skill due to their Engineering Specialization racial. This ability offers no advantage once you reach the skill cap, however. There are no schematics that require higher than 300 Engineering skill in Vanilla World of Warcraft.

New Engineering Schematics for Season of Discovery

Several new schematics have been added to the Engineering profession for Season of Discovery.

Phase 5 only adds the recipes accessible from the Zandalar Tribe.

Phase 4 unlocks most of the Vanilla WoW schematics for the end-game content while also adding a new rifle to the game! Most of the old schematics remain unchanged, however.

Phase 3 adds three new Engineer-exclusive Wrist items to the game:

In Phase 2, six more schematics were added to the game:

One new schematic was added to the game for Phase 1:

Phase 5 Engineering Schematics

Here are the best items you’ll be able to craft with Engineering in Phase 5, broken down by type.

Combat Pets

These items summon pets that will fight for you for a short time.

A couple of notes about target dummies: the different versions are level 20, 40, and 60 and will only work on enemies around or below their level range. When they expire or are killed, they have a chance to drop Fused Wiring as well as any of the materials that were used to make them.

Unfortunately I think a few things here are accurate but not possible to actually craft – for example, how are we supposed to get Frost Oil for Ice Deflector?

Good catch, I overlooked that.

Won’t net-o-matic be available in p2 as well?

Unfortunately not since it requires Gnomish specialization.

Specialization requires artisan engineering? All I can find is that it requires 200 engi, but I guess that’s when artisan becomes available in era.
