Phase 5 of Season of Discovery retains the 300 skill cap introduced in Phase 3 for professions, allowing players to max out their crafting and gathering skills in case they haven’t already done so. For the Mining profession, you’ll be able to collect most ores and gems that can be used for multiple professions, except for Small Obsidian Shard & Large Obsidian Shard which won’t be available until the release of Ahn’Qiraj!
Mining Leveling & Trainers
Check out our Classic Mining Guide for trainer locations, a leveling guide, and more. Everything in that guide should apply to Season of Discovery.
Learning Artisan Mining
From Phase 3 onward, players were able to level their professions all the way to 300 skill, or Artisan level – the maximum skill for Vanilla WoW. In Phase 5 of Season of Discovery, Artisan Mining can be learned from any Mining Trainer located in the major cities, meaning you don’t have to hunt for specific NPCs!
Keep in mind that the level restrictions brought by the Season of Discovery still apply in Phase 5! Your character will need to be at least level 41 to be able to learn Artisan Mining and at least level 26 to learn Expert Mining.
Phase 5 Mining Equipment
Besides the 300 Mining skill cap that you can reach, you can additionally use special equipment that increases your overall Mining skill past 300. You can also use this equipment even before reaching the 300 skill cap, as such equipment was very popular in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. The equipment will also be required for the upcoming phases of Season of Discovery when Small & Large Obsidian Chunks will become available with the release of Ahn’Qiraj.

Phase 5 Ore to Farm
So far, no new ore or gems have been added in Season of Discovery. Mining works the same as it did in vanilla World of Warcraft, just with lower level caps.
Pretty much any ore above Copper could be worth farming. Blacksmiths and Engineers will be looking for all of it.
Here is everything can mine in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery. Click on a node in the “Where to Pick“ column to see maps with spawn locations by zone.
And here’s a smelting table for convenience. Phase 5 finally allows players to get their hands on the recipe for Elementium Bars with the release of the Blackwing Lair!
