They have been added to the game both as a way to incentivize players to run dungeons more often and as a solid catch-up mechanic for players who fell behind and find themselves with empty coin purses.

The crates contain a large range of items, ranging from Stones & Metals, Herbs, Leather, Alchemy Reagents, Enchanting Materials, Elemental Drops, Trade Goods, and even Books or Food & Drinks.
Below you can find a list of which items can drop from the Damaged Undermine Supply Crate, including their respective quantities and drop chances. It is important to keep in mind that one crate can contain multiple items at the same time!
