New Avalon Introductory Quests Guide for Season of Discovery (SoD)

Phase 8 of Season of Discovery has brought some brand new content to WoW Classic centered around the Scarlet Crusade, a fanatical faction of humans who aim to eradicate the Scourge. In Vanilla WoW, players encountered the faction in the four wings of Scarlet Monastery as well as the Living wing of Stratholme. The Scarlet Crusade dominates the zones of Tirisfal Glades, Western Plaguelands, and Eastern Plaguelands, where they play a role in the Scourge Invasion and the raid on Naxxramas. In Season of Discovery, the faction’s story continues a step further with the New Avalon quest hub and Scarlet Enclave raid, allowing players to infiltrate the faction’s ranks and earn numerous Scarlet Crusade themed items and rewards.

To get started with the new content in Phase 8, you’ll need to complete a series of introductory quests. These quests will enable you to use a disguise to enter the New Avalon area and complete additional quests, including several that provide new Profession recipes. The chain also leads to the Scarlet Enclave raid, but it isn’t required for attunement.

How to Start the New Avalon Quests

To pick up the first quest, just head to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands and speak with Leonid Barthalomew the Revered, the undead who is standing on the platform in the chapel. He will offer the quest Scarlet Activities. As of Phase 8, you do not need any Argent Dawn reputation or attunement to Naxxramas to pick up this quest, but you do need to be level 60.

Scarlet Activities

To complete the Scarlet Activities quest, head across both Eastern and Western Plaguelands zones into Tirisfal Glades. In the hills north of The Bulwark you’ll find a small tent with a Scarlet Crusade Banner. In front of the tent is a Ball and chain. Click on it and an elite level 60 Scarlet Infiltrator will appear and attack you. Kill her to loot the Orders from the Commander.

Return to Leonid Barthalomew the Revered at Light’s Hope Chapel to turn in the quest. You’ll get the following for your trouble:

• 5 gold 76 silver
• 150 reputation with Argent Dawn
• Drinkable Stratholme Holy Water x20

Unrest at Tyr’s Hand

Leonid Barthalomew the Revered will now offer this quest, directing you to a Scarlet Base Camp west of Tyr’s Hand. Head southwest from Light’s Hope Chapel to find the camp south of the road between Corin’s Crossing and Tyr’s Hand, on the east side of Lake Mereldar. The Scarlet Crusaders here are neutral. Look for Commander Beatrix beside the tent.

Turn in the quest to her to receive the following rewards:

• 1 gold 22 silver
• 100 reputation with Argent Dawn

The Schism

Commander Beatrix will offer this quest next. All you need to do is talk to her and progress her dialogue to find out more about what’s going on at Tyr’s Hand. Then head back to Light’s Hope Chapel to turn in the quest to Leonid Barthalomew the Revered for the following:

• 2 gold 43 silver
• 100 reputation with Argent Dawn

At this point, you will unlock a secondary quest chain that starts with My Old Enemy. This chain requires clearing part of the Stratholme Undead dungeon and offers your choice of a powerful trinket as a reward. We have a separate guide for this quest chain here: My Old Enemy Quests Guide.

The Scarlet Reclamation

Pick this quest up from Leonid Barthalomew the Revered and head back to Scarlet Base Camp to turn it in to Commander Beatrix again. Here are your rewards:

• 2 gold 43 silver
• 100 reputation with Argent Dawn

Gathering Intelligence

After turning in the quest above, you’ll be able to pick this up from Scarlet Inquisitor Caldoran, who is standing on the hill nearby looking toward Tyr’s Hand.

You’re tasked with scouting out some locations in Tyr’s Hand and New Avalon. You can head over there and try to do so despite the numerous hostile elite Scarlet Crusaders in the area, or you can take the offer of a more subtle approach by talking to Inquisitor Jociphine, who is standing right next to Caldoran. Doing so will grant you a 10 minute buff, Scarlet Illusion, that disguises you as a citizen of New Avalon.

While you are disguised, most of the denizens of Tyr’s Hand and New Avalon will be friendly to you. The lone exception is Scarlet Bloodhounds, which you will definitely want to avoid. As soon as one hits you they will remove the disguise completely, causing the other Scarlet mobs to become hostile as well.

With or without your new disguise, head east into Tyr’s Hand, the elite Scarlet Crusade stronghold in the southeast corner of the map. You’ll find the cathedral at the top of the hill with a mysterious Shadow Barrier blocking the doorway. Approach the steps to scout it.

Take a left from the cathedral steps and follow the path through the large open gate into New Avalon. Watch out for Scarlet Bloodhounds at this point if you’re using a disguise. Follow the road straight ahead and up the hill to scout the keep.

Then take a right and go around the keep to find the mage tower.

With all three buildings scouted, return to Scarlet Inquisitor Caldoran to turn in the quest and receive:

• 4 gold, 86 silver
• 150 reputation with Argent Dawn

Completing this quest unlocks the quest New Avalon, which provides you with a Scarlet Insignia that can be used with 4 pieces of crafted gear for a more permanent disguise.

Weakening the Defenses

This is the next quest offered by Scarlet Inquisitor Caldoran. No need for a disguise for this one; you’re going to be fighting anyway. You should find some Scarlet Siege Commanders just inside the gates of Tyr’s Hand. Kill 3 of them and you’ll be able to turn in the quest to Commander Beatrix back at Scarlet Base Camp for the following rewards:

• 6 gold 78 silver
• 150 reputation with Argent Dawn

Report to Lord Tyrosus

After turning in the quest above, this one will be available from Argent Emissary, an Argent Dawn dwarf who is now standing beside Commander Beatrix. You just need to head north to Light’s Hope Chapel to turn this quest in to Lord Maxwell Tyrosus, who is next to Leonid Barthalomew the Revered.

The Wrath of the Dawn

Lord Maxwell Tyrosus offers this quest next. Once again, head southwest to Scarlet Base Camp and speak with Commander Beatrix to turn it in. You will receive:

• 2 gold 43 silver
• 150 reputation with Argent Dawn

Decapitation Strike

Commander Beatrix now offers this final quest in the chain. To complete it, you must enter the Scarlet Enclave raid, ring the bell inside the abbey, and defeat Balnazzar. Turning in this quest will grant you:

• 2 gold 70 silver
• 150 reputation with Argent Dawn
