The Temple of Atal’hakkar, also known as the Sunken Temple, is a significant dungeon in WoW Classic, marking a transition from the somewhat relaxed dungeons of the lower levels to the more involved dungeons that prepare characters for the endgame.

Every class has a level 50 quest chain that leads them into the Sunken Temple, in some cases offering powerful rewards that continue to be relevant even at level 60. There are also many other quests inside the dungeon for both factions.

Wow Alliance Crest Alliance Quests

Into The Temple of Atal’Hakkar

This lengthy chain starts with In Search of The Temple from Brohann Caskbelly at the Dwarven District in Stormwind. The first quest requires you to find the temple in Swamp of Sorrows and then return to Stormwind. Then you’ll be sent to The Hinterlands to speak with Falstad Wildhammer at Aerie Peak. He’ll direct you find Gryphon Master Talonaxe inside the aviary at the top of the nearby stairs. Then you’ll be sent to find Rhapsody Shindigger at Shindigger’s Camp in the hills to the east of town. He’ll ask you to bring him the following items:

Bring the items back to Rhapsody Shindigger and wait for him to mix and drink his cocktail. When he’s done talking, you’ll be able to pick up the next quest and head back to Brohann Caskbelly in Stormwind to pick up the last quest in the chain, which takes you back to the dungeon.

The Atal’ai Tablets you need can be collected from around the temple outside the dungeon as well as inside. There are three that spawn in The Broken Hall where there aren’t any mobs (one is underwater). If you are lower level or otherwise don’t want to deal with the elite enemies around the dungeon, you can just wait for these three to respawn a few times.

  • Rewards:
    • 75 silver
    • 7600 experience

This chain starts with Muigin and Larion from Muigin, who is at Marshal’s Refuge in Un’goro Crater. He wants you to collect 15 Bloodpetals from the Bloodpetal mobs around the zone. Bring these back to him and he’ll send you to speak with Gregan Brewspewer at a small camp near the Twin Colossals in Feralas. He’ll give you the dungeon quest.

Atal’ai Haze can be looted from three mobs inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon: Deep Lurker, Murk Worm, and Saturated Ooze. Collect 5 of them and return to Muigin in Un’goro Crater to turn them in. He’ll then offer one more quest if you wish to continue.

The Sunken Temple

This quest is the first in a chain that continues under the Neutral section below. For this quest, you’ll simply need to pick it up from Angelas Moonbreeze at the island off the coast of Feralas (there’s a boat that docks at The Forgotten Coast to take you there; you can see the dock sticking out of the shoreline on the zone map). Then find Marvon Rivetseeker at his camp in Tanaris.

Horde Quests

The Temple of Atal’Hakkar

This chain begins with the quest Pool of Tears, which you can pick up from Fel’zerul at Stonard in the Swamp of Sorrows. You’ll need to head to the Pool of Tears, the lake surrounding the Temple of Atal’Hakkar, and look for Atal’ai Artifacts that you can loot along the bottom. Bring these back to Fel’zerul and head to Shadra’Alor in The Hinterlands and look for the Atal’ai Exile on a shelf of the southern pyramid. While you’re here, you can also pick up the quest Jammal’an the Prophet. Return to Fel’zerul in Swamp of Sorrows to get the dungeon quest.

The 20 Fetish of Hakkar you need can be looted from most troll enemies inside and outside of the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon. Head back to Fel’zerul one more time when you’re done to complete the quest chain.

Zapper Fuel

  • Shareable: No
  • Level Required: 47
  • Chain Start: Larion at Marshal’s Refuge in Un’goro Crater
  • Quest Start: Liv Rizzlefix at Ratchet in The Barrens
  • Finish: Larion at Marshal’s Refuge in Un’goro Crater

This chain starts with Larion and Muigin and from Larion, who is at Marshal’s Refuge in Un’goro Crater. He wants you to kill four different types of Bloodpetal mobs around the zone:

When you’ve done this, return to Larion and he’ll send you to speak with Liv Rizzlefix at Ratchet in The Barrens. She’ll give you the dungeon quest.

Atal’ai Haze can be looted from three mobs inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon: Deep Lurker, Murk Worm, and Saturated Ooze. Collect 5 of them and return to Larion in Un’goro Crater to turn them in. He’ll then offer one more quest if you wish to continue.

The Sunken Temple

This quest is the first in a chain that continues under the Neutral section below. For this quest, you’ll simply need to pick it up from Witch Doctor Uzer’i at Camp Mojache in Feralas. Then find Marvon Rivetseeker at his camp in Tanaris.

Neutral Quests

The Stone Circle

This quest continues from Wow Alliance Crest The Sunken Temple/ The Sunken Temple above. The Stone Circle can be found inside Marvon’s Chest at Ratchet in The Barrens. It’s a gold box right outside one of the goblin houses. Return to Marvon Rivetseeker to turn it in to get two more dungeon quests, which we’ll detail below.

Into the Depths

This quest continues from The Stone Circle above. Head to the bottom of the dungeon, to the Pit of Refuse. There you’ll find the Altar of Hakkar at the top of the steps that lead down into the center pit. Simply interact with the altar to complete this quest.

Secret of the Circle

This quest continues from The Stone Circle above. Head to the lower level of the dungeon, to The Pit of Refuse, and go to the balconies that overlook the central pit. Each one has an Atal’ai Statue, a large stone snake. These must be interacted with in the correct order in order to complete the quest and summon the boss (and to avoid getting a nasty curse put on you). Here is the order:

  1. South
  2. North
  3. Southwest
  4. Southeast
  5. Northwest
  6. Northeast

Each statue will glow bright green when activated. When all six have been clicked, the boss Atal’alarion will appear in the central pit. When this boss has been defeated, you will be able to click the final snake statue, the Idol of Hakkar, which is behind him in the water. Doing so will complete the quest.

Jammal’an the Prophet

This quest is picked up and completed at Shadra’Alor in The Hinterlands. The Atal’ai Exile who offers it is on a small platform on one of the pyramids – beside the steps, not at the top. The quest requires killing Jammal’an the Prophet, one of the bosses inside the dungeon, and looting his head. In order to access this boss, you will first need to kill the six Troll Mini-Bosses on the balconies that overlook the Pit of Sacrifice on the top level of the dungeon: Zolo, Gasher, Loro, Hukku, Mijan, and Zul’Lor.

The God Hakkar

This quest continues from a chain in Zul’Farrak that begins with Screecher Spirits from Yeh’kinya. The prerequisites for this quest are required to summon the boss Avatar of Hakkar inside the dungeon. Summon and defeat the boss at his summoning circle in the Sanctum of the Fallen God, then loot the Filled Egg of Hakkar from its corpse.

This chain proceeds into the Lower Blackrock Spire dungeon if you choose to continue it.

The Essence of Eranikus

This quest is obtained from the Essence of Eranikus item that is dropped by Shade of Eranikus inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar. To complete it, simply use the Essence Font, the brazier that is in the corner of the room behind the boss.

Class Quests

Every class has a level 50 quest chain that culminates in the Temple of Atal’Hakkar and offers some powerful rewards.

WoW Druid Icon A Better Ingredient

This chain begins with Torwa Pathfinder, which can be picked up from Druid Trainers in major cities or in Moonglade. The quest directs you to find the NPC of the same name, Torwa Pathfinder, at the entrance to Un’goro Crater from Tanaris. He’ll task you with collecting 8 Bloodcaps from Bloodpetal Sprouts (the round green pods you’ll find on the ground all over the zone) and 8 Gorishi Stings, which can be looted from the following mobs:

Return these items to Torwa, and he’ll send you back out to stab a Devilsaur with a Devilsaur Barb. There are three mobs that work for this, all of which are level 55+ elites: Devilsaur, Ironhide Devilsaur, or Tyrant Devilsaur. You can use Hibernate on them to get close, but be aware that using the Barb on them will wake them up. You don’t need to kill them, so your best bet may be to stab and run. Return to Torwa for the final quest in the chain, which requires looting a Putrid Vine from the first boss in the dungeon, Atal’alarion (who must be summoned by activating the Atal’ai Statues in the correct order). Bring the item back to Torwa for your reward.

Hunter Icon The Green Drake

This chain begins with The Hunter’s Charm, which can be picked up from Hunter Trainers in major cities. You’ll be sent to Ogtinc, a furbolg on a cliff overlooking the shore of Azshara, northeast of the Ruins of Eldarath. Ogtinc sends you to get two Perfect Courser Antlers from Mosshoof Coursers in the zone. Bring these back and Ogtinc will ask for 6 Wavethrasher Scales from Wavethrasher, Great Wavethrasher, or Young Wavethrasher along the coast. Return once more and you’ll receive the final quest in the chain, which requires you to loot Tooth of Morphaz from Morphaz, one of the dragon bosses inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar. Bring this item back to Ogtinc to complete the chain and receive your reward.

Mage Icon Destroy Morphaz

This chain begins with the quest Magecraft, which can be picked up from a Mage Trainer in a major city. The quest sends you to Sanath Lim-yo in Azshara, who will teleport you up the hill. Ascend the path and climb the tower to find Archmage Xylem. He’ll ask you to collect 10 Glittering Dust from Blood Elf Reclaimer and Blood Elf Surveyor to the east. Bring these back to him and he’ll send you back out for 6 Enchanted Coral from Spitelash Siren on the shore. Return once again and he’ll give you the final quest in the chain, sending you into the Temple of Atal’Hakkar to loot Arcane Shard from Morphaz, one of the dragon bosses. Bring this back to Archmage Xylem to complete the chain and receive your reward.

Paladin Icon Forging the Mightstone

The quest sends you to Commander Ashlam Valorfist at Chillwind Camp in Western Plaguelands. He’ll ask you to gather 20 Minion’s Scourgestones from high-level undead enemies. To pick up the Scourgestones, you’ll need to have an Argent Dawn Commission equipped. You can get one from Argent Officer Pureheart nearby. Bring these Scourgestones to High Priest Thel’danis inside Uther’s Tomb a little to the east. He’ll then send you back to Commander Ashlam Valorfist, who will give you the final quest in the chain. To complete it, you must loot the following feathers from the six troll mini-bosses on the upper balconies inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon:

Return the feathers to Commander Ashlam Valorfist to complete the chain and receive your reward.

Priest Icon Blood of Morphaz

The quest sends you to Ogtinc, a furbolg on a cliff overlooking the shore of Azshara, northeast of the Ruins of Eldarath. You’ll be tasked with looting 4 Healthy Courser Glands from Mosshoof Coursers in the zone. Bring these back and Ogtinc will ask for an Ichor of Undeath, which can drop from high level undead. Kill the highborne spirits in the Ruins of Eldarath nearby, or simply pick one up from the Auction House. Then you’ll be able to pick up the final quest in the chain, which sends you into the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon to loot Blood of Morphaz from one of the green dragon bosses inside, Morphaz. Bring this item to Greta Mosshoof at the Emerald Sanctuary in Felwood to complete the chain and receive your reward.

Rogue Icon The Azure Key

This chain begins with the quest A Simple Request, which can be picked up from the Rogue Trainer (or a nearby NPC) in any city except Thunder Bluff. The quest sends you to Lord Jorach Ravenholdt at Ravenholdt Manor in Alterac Mountains. Reaching the Manor requires following a path in Hillsbrad Foothills in the mountains across the river from Tarren Mill. You’ll next be tasked with retrieving a Sealed Azure Bag from a Timbermaw Shaman in the north of Azshara. It can be turned in to Archmage Xylem inside a tower in the hills nearby. To reach the tower, you must speak with Sanath Lim-yo, who will teleport you up the hill. Ascend the path and climb the tower, and Xylem will ask you to loot 10 Encoded Fragments from creatures in Azshara such as:

When you return to Archmage Xylem, he will offer you the final quest in the chain, which requires defeating the boss Morphaz inside the dungeon and looting his Azure Key. Bring this key back to Lord Jorach Ravenholdt at Ravenholdt Manor to complete the chain.

The quest sends you to Bath’rah the Windwatcher at Chillwind Point in Alterac Mountains. Hand him the items, and he’ll ask you for some more items:

Turn these in and you’ll be able to pick up the final quest in the chain. To complete it, you must loot the following feathers from the six troll mini-bosses on the upper balconies inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon:

Return the feathers to Bath’rah the Windwatcher to complete the chain and receive your reward.

Warlock Icon Trolls of a Feather

This chain begins with the quest An Imp’s Request, which can be picked up from a Warlock Trainer in a major city. You’ll need to bring a piece of Felcloth with you to hand in; you can loot one from high level demons, including the satyrs in Felwood, or you can simply purchase one from the Auction House. Head to Bloodvenom Falls in central Felwood to hand in the cloth to Impsy. He’ll ask you to collect a few more items:

Turn these in and you’ll be able to pick up the final quest in the chain. To complete it, you must loot the following feathers from the six troll mini-bosses on the upper balconies inside the Temple of Atal’Hakkar dungeon:
