This guide will cover how to get the Malleable Protection rune for Paladins in Season of Discovery. We’ll go over all of the locations and requirements in the walkthrough below as well as any useful tips and tricks.
- Rune: Malleable Protection
- Engraving: Engrave Belt – Malleable Protection
- Class: Paladin
- Slot: Waist
- Added: Phase 2 (changed in Phase 4)
- Level: 34 (Required)
This discovery previously awarded the Enlightened Judgements ability, which was replaced with Malleable Protection in Phase 4.
How to Get the Malleable Protection Rune
As of Phase 6, all runes and skill books can be purchased from Rune Brokers in starting zones and major cities for 1 copper a piece. Each of these vendors is simply named “Rune Broker” and can be easily spotted by their purple glow, lurking very close to where new characters enter the game. You can see all of their locations in our guide below.
Original Discovery Method
To get this rune you will need to be at least level 34 in order to have learned Divine Shield.
Head to Arathi Highlands and kill Humanoid enemies to get three Tarnished Prayer Beads. Any of these three items can drop from Boulderfist ogres, Witherbark trolls, and Syndicate humans. When you have the beads, they must each be cleansed by using a different ability:
- Tarnished Prayer Bead I is purified by casting Blessing of Might in combat and then defeating an enemy.
- Tarnished Prayer Bead II is purified by casting Divine Shield when you are at or below 10% Health.
- Tarnished Prayer Bead III is purified by using Judgement of Justice on a mob that is fleeing.
Bring the three purified Divine Prayer Beads to Brother Atticus in the graveyard at Stromgarde Keep and receive your Rune of Piety.
About the Author
If you are getting this @ 60 Bead 1 needs to be a mob that would grant xp. Rest can be done on any mobs.

Dark Iron Dwarves on the Thandol Span bridge also drop prayer beads 2&3
Make sure you don’t have full inventory when you turn in for the rune at the end. I had full inventory when I turned in rosary and it messed things up… The rosary is missign and i didnt get rune. IDK what to do now. I need to farm beads again i guess.
