This guide will cover how to get the Maelstrom Weapon rune for Shamans in Season of Discovery. We’ll go over all of the locations and requirements in the walkthrough below as well as any useful tips and tricks.

How to Get the Maelstrom Weapon Rune
To get the Maelstrom Weapon rune, you must be at least level 30 to start the quest.
To start the quest, kill Charlga Razorflank, the last boss of Razorfen Kraul. He drops a Tattered Note that can only be used at level 30. Activate the note to start a quest that is also called Tattered Note.
Then, head to Thousand Needles and deliver the scroll to Rau Cliffrunner at Freewind Post (46.0, 51.6).
Head towards Hillsbrad Foothills and reach Tarren Mill. Follow the river next to Tarren Mill and head north. You will find Bath’rah the Windwatcher at (80.4, 66.8) in Alterac Mountains. Before interacting with Bath’rah, type /pray at the altar that can be found right next to him.
Accept his quest and head to Desolace to collect 5 Whirling Essence from Whirlwind Elementals. Be aware that the drop chance is extremely low.
Head to Dustwallow Marsh once you collect the Whirling Essence, and collect 5 Rushing Essence from Withervine Ragers, Withervine Creepers, Withervine Bark Rippers, and Withervine Mire Beasts. These mobs can be found roaming the waters in the swamps to the south of Brackenwall Village.
Head to Badlands to find your 10 Rumbling Essence, which can be found from Rock Elementals just northeast of Kargath.
Purchase a Crystal Vial from an Alchemy Supplies vendor and return to Bath’rah the Windwatcher. Turn in the quest and pick up the next quest to return to Rau Cliffrunner in the Thousand Needles.
Return to Rau Cliffrunner and hand in the quest. Pick up the new quest and drink the vial he offers, which confers a 30 minute buff. Talk to the Flight Master once you drink the vial and choose the second dialogue option. You’ll be sent to a ledge to the north of Freewind Post and tasked with killing the Ravaging Tempest and his Quillboar cronies. The elemental only has 1.1k health but hits like a truck with a knockback move, so be careful.
Warning: It has been confirmed that if you die during this encounter, you should talk to the Spirit Guide and ask to be sent back instead of choosing any other alternative. Failing to do so will fail the quest.
Once you’ve vanquished the elemental, loot from him a rare gem called the Eye of the Tempest. Return to Rau Cliffrunner to be told, once more, to return to Bath’rah the Windwatcher.
Upon return to Bath’rah, you’ll hand the gem in for your rune.
