The entire WoW Classic subreddit is currently filled with posts referencing a massive banwave. There has been a lot of speculation on the reason for the banwave as multiple raiding guilds have been effected, with some players that we’re affected saying they were told it was because of “Exploitation of guild mechanics”.
In one case however Vrakthris, from Blizzard Customer Support, replied to a support post about it saying “when large groups of guild members are all penalized around the same time it is because they have been found to have exploited the game terrain, such as going through walls, going underground, or otherwise circumventing the normal mechanics of the game.”
@BlizzardCS on Twitter has also been replying to some questions there about the issue, simply pointing them toward the Contact Support page and that the suspensions are not in error.
These suspensions are intended. If a user wishes to appeal, they may file a ticket. ^KAL

While I am not able to provide much in the way of details when large groups of guild members are all penalized around the same time it is because they have been found to have exploited the game terrain, such as going through walls, going underground, or otherwise circumventing the normal mechanics of the game.
The email should have provided the penalty duration, the display in the client is very much off, which our teams are aware of.
If you believe the action is in error, please be sure to submit an appeal.
