Some particularly keen Classic Era players spotted a very peculiar error on Blizzard’s part, regarding the various Classic servers.
Specifically, the Oceanian server Lionheart appeared to be incorrectly flagged as a Classic Era server in Blizzard’s transfer system. This allowed players to transfer their old Classic Era characters with full Naxxramas, Ahn’qiraj etc equipment, to SoM, where those raids and their equipment are not yet available. They could also bring up to 5,000 of their significantly inflated in value Classic Era gold, potentially damaging the economy.
The result was utter chaos. Battlegrounds were filled with Lionheart characters decked out in the best equipment, slaughtering any regular SoM character who stood in their path, unable to fight back with their significantly weaker equipment.
The picture featured in this article for example shows a warrior from the Lionheart server wielding the Corrupted Ashbringer, one of the strongest weapons in the game, fighting off against regular Season of Mastery characters.
Predictably, the official forums and Reddit were filled with baffled and outraged players complaining about this situation. As a result, Blizzard promptly took the Lionheart server down, until they tracked down every Classic Era character, returning them to their original server and reversing any actions they took on the server, in terms of items and the economy.
The server is now back up and all is back to normal, but it was a pretty funny error on their part nonetheless. It became clear that players cared deeply for the integrity of the “fresh” or seasonal aspect of Season of Mastery, so it is good to see that Blizzard also took this issue seriously and acted promptly.

UPDATED 4:23 p.m. PST – December 3, 2021
The Lionheart (AU) Season of Mastery Realm has been returned to service and is available for play.
During this downtime, we tracked down every character that transferred to the realm and began the process of returning them to their origin and reversing their actions. That work is still underway, and we will continue to ensure that no items or economic impacts remain on Lionheart.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

We’ve temporarily disabled the Lionheart (AU) Season of Mastery realm while we take our next steps to address the transfer bug experienced on that realm.
We’ll provide further updates here as soon as possible.
