Today’s Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream included plenty of news for WoW Classic, including an update to what we can expect for Season of Discovery.
Phase 6 is due to begin November 21st, with the Scepter of the Shifting Sands Quests already underway and the War Effort beginning with the phase’s launch. The phase’s three raids will launch on December 6th: Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj, Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, and the new Nightmare Grove instance for the four Dragons of Nightmare.
After that, we’ll see one more phase for Season of Discovery. Phase 7 will include the final raid of Vanilla WoW as expected, Naxxramas. We will also see some “new instanced content featuring the Scarlet Crusade as well as adventures in Deadwind Pass.” Presumably this will include the Karazhan Crypts instance that was teased when the season was announced, but it’s unclear whether it will be a fully fledged raid or something else.
Blizzard seems to be looking to wrap up Season of Discovery as it moves on to other content – namely, the Anniversary Edition fresh realms that were announced today. These new WoW Classic realms launch on the same day that Phase 6 begins in Season of Discovery.
Following the live stream, Community Manager Kaivax posted on the forums to reassure players that their SoD characters will not be deleted, and future plans for SoD realms will be revealed in time.
Following today’s Warcraft Direct 2, we hope you’re as excited as we are about everything coming to WoW Classic! We hope that Season of Discovery players caught a glimpse at some of the exciting new content and rewards we have in store for you.
Many players want to know more about the future for your Season of Discovery characters, and we want to repeat what we’ve said in the past:
We have no plans to delete Season of Discovery characters or to shut down the SoD realms. We plan to continue supporting them, and we’re hard at work on everything else that’s coming … Soon™.
