- Expansion: WoW Classic
Blizzard has given us a few more important details for the fresh Classic realms that are coming on Thursday with the new Anniversary Edition.
The new realms will go live November 21 at 2:00 PM PST. The Molten Core and Onyxia’s Lair raids will not open until December 12, giving players a solid 3 weeks to level and prepare before facing the first major endgame content phase.
There will be three mega-realms for each region at launch, named after some of the world buff items that can be obtained in Blasted Lands:
- Mol’dar’s Moxie (Normal/PvE)
- Fengus’ Ferocity (PvP)
- Slip’kik’s Savvy (Hardcore)
It’s worth noting that the only transfers that will be allowed between realms will be from Hardcore to Normal/PvE realms. Hardcore realms will not progress to The Burning Crusade next year alongside the other two types. PvP realms will be receiving new faction-balanced layers similar to how War Mode works in modern WoW.
As far as features and what is and isn’t being changed, here’s what you can expect in the new “Classic Classic” version of the game:
- Looking for Group (LFG) tool: This tool will be implemented from launch and will make it easier to find and create groups. (Note that this is a different tool than the Group Finder in modern WoW and will not teleport you to a dungeon or raid.)
- Services Chat Channel: No more portal, summons, and buffs spam in Trade or LFG channels, as these services will have their own designated chat channel.
- Instant Mail: Characters on the same account will now be able to receive mail instantly, making it much easier for you to juggle stuff between your alts.
- No Buff/Debuff Limit: Vanilla WoW had a cap on the number of buffs or debuffs that could be up on any given character, which made some DoT-heavy builds less desirable in raids. That cap has been removed for this version of WoW Classic.
- Dual Spec: As we saw in Season of Discovery, dual talent specialization is making its way into this version of Classic as well. You will be able to swap easily between two builds without visiting your class trainer and paying an increasing amount of gold each time.
- New Guild UI: The modern guild interface will be available in this version of Classic, and you will be able to choose between this newer UI or the original one according to your preference.
WoW Classic Anniversary Realms
New WoW Classic Anniversary realms will go live on November 21 at 2:00 p.m. PST. In each region, the realms will be:
- Mol’dar’s Moxie (Normal)
- Fengus’ Ferocity (PvP)
- Slip’kik’s Savvy (Hardcore)
The Molten Core and Onxyia raids will open on December 12.
To support group play, Anniversary realms include a Looking for Group (LFG) tool, which will allow players to create, join, and browse parties manually.
Anniversary realms feature a Services chat channel that players can enable, specifically for advertising services such as portals, summons, and tribute buffs. All such advertising must be posted to the Services channel, and player chat of these kinds placed elsewhere are subject to player reports and actions taken by Blizzard. Additionally:
- Mail between characters on the same account is instant.
- The buff/debuff limit is removed.
- Dual Spec availability will be added soon. This will not available immediately after the launch of Anniversary realms.
- Players can now toggle between the old Guild UI and the new one as an interface option. (Under Interface -> Classic Guild UI)
