Welcome to our World Boss Guide for Archavon the Stone Watcher in the 20th Anniversary Event! This boss is new to the event in 2024, and is the only one of the six world bosses that was originally found inside a raid instance. He’s somehow made his way from Archavon’s Vault in Northrend to the deserts of Tanaris for World of Warcraft’s Anniversary.

This World Boss is required for the achievement The Gatecrashers.

Archavon the Stone Watcher Location

Archavon the Stone Watcher is located west of Gadgetzan in Tanaris (46.0, 28.9). The best way to reach Tanaris is by heading to the portal room in your faction’s capital city and taking the portal to Caverns of Time.

Archavon the Stone Watcher Abilities & Strategy

This Humanoid boss from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is initially encased in a shield and guarded by 5 Val’kyr Hunters, each with 35k health. You must defeat the Val’kyrs in order to pull the boss, and then a player must take each of their places around him to remove the shield.

Archavon himself has 738 million health. You can face this boss as low as level 15, since the encounter scales. As a World Boss, you will need a sizeable group to defeat this enemy.

Crushing Leap: He’ll target a player to leap to, dealing AoE damage and knocking away anyone nearby and leaving a Choking Cloud on the ground. Try to spread out to avoid being hit by this.
Choking Cloud: An AoE that will deal damage over time and reduce your chance to hit – don’t stand in it.
Rock Shards: Another targeted AoE attack, and another reason to spread out.
Stomp: He’ll occasionally knock down his target for 2 seconds.
Impale: He’ll do heavy damage to one player with this, and they’ll need some extra healing.

Archavon the Stone Watcher Loot

Archavon drops the same loot he did in Wrath of the Lich King, but they have been upgraded for modern WoW. This includes the Grand Black War Mammoth mount as well as chest, hands, and legs pieces from the Hateful Gladiator PvP sets and Tier 7 sets. These leveled-up versions of the items will not have any of their original set bonuses.
