The War Within is the 10th expansion for World of Warcraft, and it brings the story to a new continent, Khaz Algar. To reach this new land, you will need to own The War Within expansion, which is a separate purchase from the base game.

Before heading to Khaz Algar for the first time, you’ll want to start the story campaign for The War Within. This guide will begin with the introductory quests for the continent. You can skip ahead to the last section, “Portals to Khaz Algar,” if you just want to get there as quickly as possible.

Starting The War Within Story Campaign

This series of quests will introduce you to the story for The War Within expansion and prepare you for your trip to the new land of Khaz Algar.

  • Head to Silithis and talk to Jaina or Thrall
• A Poor Reception
  • Enter the Chamber of Heart and speak with Magni Bronzebeard
• Azeroth’s Voice
  • Activate the consoles around the room, then talk to Jaina after the cinematic
• Painful Lessons
  • Use the nearby portal and speak with Khadgar in Dalaran
• The Bronzebeard Family
  • Picked up from Moira Thaurissan nearby
  • Head up top and talk to Brann Bronzebeard in the Dalaran Visitor Center, then follow him back to The Portrait Room
• A Mysterious Warning
  • Picked up from Magni Bronzebeard nearby
  • Speak with Khadgar
• Citizens of Dalaran
  • Locate citizens on your map who need help and use the special ability that appears when near them
• Meet the Team
  • Picked up from Brann Bronzebeard nearby
  • Speak with Elise Starseekr near The Violet Citadel
• Strengthen the Wards
  • Picked up from Archmage Drenden up the stairs
  • Locate defensive wards on the map and use the Tuning Wand to strengthen them
• To Khaz Algar!
  • Speak with Khadgar
• Breach
  • Rescue citizens marked on the map and kill Nerubians
• Rupture
  • Follow Alleria, and then head down into the sewers when you get separated. There you’ll find 5 Webbed Victims you need to free before clicking on the sewer grate marked on your map
• Departure
  • Exit through the opposite end of the tunnel from where you arrived, then defeat Queensguard An’Jak Shabtir and take Khadgar’s portal
• Violent Impact
  • Click a few times on the Pile of Rubble to free yourself and then talk to Thrall nearby

At this point you will be in Khaz Algar! You can continue the main story campaign, which will soon take you to the city of Dornogal, or you can fly there or to one of the other zones.

How to Get to Dornogal

Getting to Dornogal, the capital city of Khaz Algar, is as simple as flying there once you arrive on the Isle of Dorn. You can also get a Mage to create a portal for you.

How to Get to The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, and Azj-Kahet

You’ll land on the Isle of Dorn when you first arrive in Khaz Algar, and the other three zones of this land are buried deep beneath the first. To access them, you’ll need to pass through The Coreway inside the city of Dornogal. Just look for the big hole in the ground in the southwest area of the city and fly all the way down.

The Coreway exits into The Ringing Deeps. Very close to the gate from The Coreway you’ll find another gate that leads to Hallowfall (it will be marked on your map). Azj-Kahet can be reached by flying there from either The Ringing Deeps or Hallowfall.

There is also an elevator to the Ringing Deeps from the Isle of Dorn that can be unlocked by completing quests in the zone. To unlock the elevator, speak with the Oathsworn Earthen at The Orecreg (37.6, 72.7) and complete his quest Passage to the Ringing Deeps. You’ll then be able to use the elevator behind him, which will transport you to Opportunity Point at the south end of The Ringing Deeps, very close to where you can enter Azj-Kahet.

Finally, when you have completed the main story campaign for The War Within, you will unlock a portal between The Weaver’s Lair in Azj-Kahet and The Fissure in Dornogal.

Portals to Khaz Algar

There are a few different ways to get back and forth to Khaz Algar.

Mage Portals

Mages can create a portal for their party members with Portal: Dornogal.

For personal use, they also have Teleport: Dornogal.

Stormwind Portal (Alliance)

There is a portal to Dornogal in the Stormwind Portal Room. You’ll find it by going up the stairs in the middle of the main room.

Orgrimmar Portal (Horde)

There is a portal to Dornogal in the Orgrimmar Portal Room. Instead of entering the main portal room, head down the stairs to the left to find it in the lower room.
