Mages are masters of magic, whether it be arcane magic or the elements of fire and frost, and their artifact weapons reflect this background. In this guide we’ll show you how to unlock the hidden appearances for all three mage artifact weapons. To unlock the additional color tints for these appearances, see our main Hidden Artifact Weapon Appearances guide.
Arcane
Weapon: Aluneth (Two Hand)
Hidden Appearance: Woolomancer’s Charge
Hidden Effect: Overcharge and the weapon will sometimes speak to you.
Unlocked By: The Woolomancer’s Charge
How to Unlock Woolomancer’s Charge
The tasks you must perform to unlock this appearance are all sheep-themed! Here’s a quick summary before we go through each step in detail:
- Use Polymorph on five specific creatures in the Broken Isles
- Blow up a Volatile Sheep in your class order hall
- Blow up an Extremely Volatile Stormheim Sheep in Stormheim
- Confront Cote “Shepherd” Metcalf in Elwynn Forest
An addon like RareScanner can be useful here since you will be spending some time searching for specific creatures. You can add custom NPCs to track by entering their ID numbers in the options menu.
It’s Polymorphin’ Time
The first step is to use your Polymorph spell on five creatures. Here is a chat command to help you track your progress:
/run for k,v in pairs{Azsuna=43787,Stormheim=43789,Valsharah=43790,Suramar=43791,Highmountain=43788} do print(k,C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(v)) end
When you have polymorphed the correct creature for the first time, it will create a Volatile Sheep. The sheep will say “…” in a dialogue box and in your chat window.
Here are the five creatures you need to polymorph:
Exploding Sheep
The next step is to check for a Volatile Sheep in the Hall of the Guardian, your class order hall. It has a chance to spawn once a day when you enter the instance. When it does spawn, Cote “Shepherd” Metcalf will appear and say “Success!” To complete this step, you must right-click on the sheep until it explodes. Here is a chat command to check if you have had your chance to spawn the sheep for the day. If it returns as true and you have not seen a sheep, it means you will have to wait another day. If false, you can come back and try again.
/script print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(43828))
Next up is another exploding sheep! Head to Stormheim and look for an Extremely Volatile Stormheim Sheep. They can spawn in several locations across the northern half of the large island, around and in The Runewood. When you find it, right-click on the sheep until it explodes.

Cote “Shepherd” Metcalf
Now you’ll need to find Cote “Shepherd” Metcalf at the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest.
/way Elwynn Forest 64 69 Cote "Shepherd" Metcalf
As you approach, you’ll witness a conversation between Metcalf and Theocritus. Afterward you’ll complete a short event where you must kill even more sheep! After a few waves of sheep, Cote “Shepherd” Metcalf will turn hostile. Kill him and you’ll be able to loot The Woolomancer’s Charge.
Fire
Weapon: Felo’melorn (Main Hand) and Heart of the Phoenix (Off Hand)
Hidden Appearance: Stars’ Design
Hidden Effect: An unique blacksmith dialogue in Dalaran rewards artifact power. Enemies you kill will sometimes be left charred and smoldering.
Unlocked By: The Stars’ Design
How to Unlock Stars’ Design
Obtaining The Stars’ Design is a simple matter of killing enemies in Suramar until it drops. The best place to do this is in Suramar City. Loyalist Sycophants in The Gilded Market have a quick respawn rate.
/way Suramar 55 64 Loyalist Sycophants
Kill them until you get The Stars’ Design. This is one of the easiest hidden appearances to farm!
Frost
Weapon: Ebonchill (Two Hand)
Hidden Appearance: Frostfire Remembrance
Hidden Effect: Unknown
Unlocked By: Everburning Crystal
How to Unlock Frostfire Remembrance
To obtain an Everburning Crystal, you must first unlock the Teleportation Nexus in your class order hall. To do this, speak with Chronicler Elrianne on the bottom floor of Hall of the Guardian. She will only be there if you have completed your order hall campaign up to ! Troops in the Field.
You will first need to research a tier 1 trait at a cost of 50 Order Resources, waiting 2 hours for it to finish. Then you can research the Teleportation Nexus trait for 100 Order Resources. Another 4 hours later you will gain access to five portals that can take you to various locations in the Broken Isles.
Each day there is a chance that you will be teleported to Frostfire Ridge when you take one of these portals. When this event is active, you will see a message in your chat that says, “You hear a strange crackling sound from the portals downstairs.” Here is a chat command to check if you have had your chance to teleport there for the day. If it returns as true, it means you will have to wait another day. If false, you can keep trying.
/script print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44384))
Once this teleport event occurs, Cindreck will escort you to Asher. Click the Everburning Crystal in front of him to loot it.
Â
im doing the chat command everyday, and everyday it return true
what that even means!?
if it says “true” it means you chance is gone for the day. Had this everyday up until now. Now it says “false” which means the door is still open for the event to take place. There’s a chance today.
