Ahoy there, matey! Plunderstorm is a new game mode in World of Warcraft that launched with Dragonflight Patch 10.2.6. This pirate-themed battle royale game is separate from Dragonflight and can be played without purchasing the expansion, although to play, you will need to install World of Warcraft and have an active subscription.
Plunderstorm is a limited event that is planned to last for several weeks. It’s a new type of content for Blizzard, and given how well it’s been received, it’s likely that we’ll see more events like this one in the future. It’s also possible they’re testing the waters for a full battle royale game down the line, but that’s just scuttlebutt for now!
